It's fair to argue that Joe Montana and Tom Brady represent the past and present gold standards of NFL quarterbacks. They each set individual passing records, won multiple Super Bowl championships, and helped transform their respective teams into dynasties.

Following the enormity of Brady's success over the last decade, many have pondered the answer to the million dollar question: who's the better QB?

Patriots owner Robert Kraft seems to have the answer, telling NFL.com's Albert Breer that Brady has surpassed Montana -- and then some.

"I think that Tommy, with all due respect, is better than Joe Montana," Kraft said. "I know that's a leap, but I really think he might already be the best of all time. I watch how involved he is, how driven he is. He's like Belichick, he's into the details. And he's got a skill that makes him so special, he can process all of it so quickly. ... And then, he's just got that quality. Certain people have that sincerity. He's a very genuine guy. People can relate to him. People can trust him."

Of course, Kraft's opinion isn't exactly garden-variety.

"He's like a fifth son to me. He's special," Kraft said of Brady.

As for the answer to the question, it's one that simply boils down to a matter of opinion. It's akin to determining the best flavor of ice cream; many people like chocolate and many like vanilla.

The only disparity is Montana played in an entirely different era, when defenses typically ruled the roost. Nowadays, the NFL has become a predominately passing league, with defenses handcuffed by the bevy of different rules being enforced by officials.

We'll never know how Brady would've fared on the old 49ers teams of years past, or if Montana's magic would've remained if transplanted to the confines of Foxborough in the 2000s.
