Because I’m so used to the Rams getting overlooked on the national scale, I reflexively get enraged when people bring up the Defensive Player of the Year voting. Amazingly though, Rams defensive end Robert Quinn is justifiably receiving all the honors he deserves after his 19-sack season that saw him easily rated as Pro Football Focus’s best 4-3 defensive end. Quinn’s already received All-Pro honors, the PFWA Defensive Player of the Year and will co-captain one of the Pro Bowl teams this Sunday in Hawaii. Simply by including Quinn, ESPN is giving him his just accolades in their unofficial Twitter poll of who should win Defensive Player of the Year. LIVE VOTE!! Who is the Defensive Player of the Year? R. Quinn, R. Mathis, L. Kuechly or R.Sherman. Tweet NOW using hashtag #NFLLiveFanVote — NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) January 21, 2014 Quinn is also considered one of the top contenders for the AP Defensive Player of the Year (basically the Academy Award to the PFWA’s Golden Globe), which will be announced before the Super Bowl. The Rams need a Richard Sherman-like defender.
