During last week’s preseason opener, Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie completely leveled scrambling Steelers quarterback Byron Leftwich, drawing an obvious late-hit penalty, and, to no one’s surprise, the ire of the league. On Friday, Rodgers-Cromartie, who the NFL determined “unnecessarily struck a defenseless player in the head and neck area,” was fined $21,000. The monetary punishment, apparently, is too much for the 26-year-old. “Twenty-one thousand. I ain’t even got that,” Rodgers-Cromartie said, via CSNPhilly.com. For the record, he’s set to make more than $1.9 million in the final year of the nearly $16 million contract he signed as a Cardinal in 2008. So, either he’s joking or needs to keep better tabs on his finances.
