According to Greg Aiello of the NFL, commissioner Roger Goodell has informed Saints head coach Sean Payton that he’s now been reinstated after his year-long suspension for his role in the Saints’ bounty scandal. @nflcommish has informed Saints HC Sean Payton that he is reinstated, effective immediately. — Greg Aiello (@gregaiello) January 22, 2013 The Saints and their fans can rejoice as they get ready to re-tool and get back into the playoffs next season. Payton can now attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans, as well as this week’s Senior Bowl down in Mobile, Alabama. Maybe Goodell will be booed less during the Super Bowl…..maybe not. Below is a part of the NFL’s official announcement. Coach Payton acknowledged in the meeting his responsibility for the actions of his coaching staff and players and pledged to uphold the highest standards of the NFL and ensure that his staff and players do so as well. “We had a very productive discussion,” said Commissioner Goodell. “Sean fully complied with all the requirements imposed on him during his suspension. More important, it is clear that Sean understands and accepts his responsibilities as a head coach and the vital role that coaches play in promoting player safety and setting an example for how the game should be played at all levels. We are committed to delivering football that fans love and the safety players deserve.
