Illinois State defensive lineman Nate Palmer only had one predraft visit, and it was with the team that drafted him, the Green Bay Packers. At the 6-foot-2, 248-pounds, Palmer fits as an outside pass rusher in Dom Caper’s 3-4 scheme. In college he played as a down lineman and will be making the transition to linebacker in the NFL, but he doubted that anyone would draft him. Sitting at home watching friends get selected, his phone rang with a Wisconsin area code. It was a surprise when the Packers grabbed him with their sixth-round selection (No. 193). Palmer talks about not expecting to be drafted and getting the call that changed his life. “No, honestly I wasn’t,” said Palmer said, via Weston Hodkiewicz of PackersNews.com  “I was just watching the draft as a fan. And I was just relaxing and looking to see if any of my friends were getting drafted.” “When I got the call, I saw the Wisconsin area code and when they said who they were, words couldn’t even come out of my mouth.” “I still have a lot to learn because defensive end is my primary position,” Palmer said. “But I feel like some of the things that I have learned will help me learn, help me adapt, help me get quicker. I know it’s going to be a learning curve, but I’m just ready to get to work.”
