The New York Giants went into the season with a huge question mark at the number three wide receiver position. The departure of Super Bowl hero Mario Manningham, who left via free agency for San Francisco, opened the door of opportunity for one of the Giants young receivers.  Wideouts Ramses Barden, Domenik Hixon and Rueben Randall all would get a chance to prove themselves to Tom Coughlin and receivers coach Kevin Gilbride. Hixson has flashed, but he’s injury prone, and the same could be said about Barden. However, rookie Randall could be just what the Giants are looking for. They do not have a dominant tight end, and the offense is wide receiver based. The number three receiver (not exactly a slot as all three receivers line up in multiple positions) is as important as the one or two. “The thing is, based on injury, we’ve had to slide some guys in there, whether they were the third wide or not,” Gilbride said. “The good thing is that we’ve had some guys step into those roles and be productive. Whether it be Ramses Barden; clearly Domenik Hixon has played well when he’s been in there, and Rueben Randall has really shown some things when he’s been in there as well,” according to Dan Salomone of Newyorkgiants.com. “I’d say he has a grasp of understanding the offense, understanding techniques and then actually getting on the field and executing it,” Gilbride said. “He’s just made steps in the right direction. He’s not where he needs to be, but he’s getting there. Then hopefully down the stretch run, he can really be a factor helping our team.” A LSU product, Randle was drafted by the New York Giants in the 2nd round of the 2012 NFL Draft. In his first year, he has 11 receptions for 158 yards.
