Steelers President Art Rooney II wants Ben Roethlisberger to “tweak his play a little bit” and not take as many hits.  Roethlisberger is about to turn 30 and the toll that is being taken on his body will soon start to kick in.  We saw that start this season.  Roethlisberger was injured against Cleveland and still was not healthy 4 weeks later when the playoffs started.  As you get older it takes a little more time to get back to full health.  Rooney sees that and wants Roethlisberger to stay healthy.

Not to long after that Rooney talked about how he liked the guys the Steelers had up front.  Rooney stated, “For the most part, I would say we feel like we have the people in the building that can do the job.”  Rooney also expressed that the he does not see the Steelers making any type of splash signing in Free Agency.

You can not expect Roethlisberger to take less hits if you will not fix the offensive line.  There are only 2 starter quality players up front.  They are Maurkice Pouncey and Marucs Gilbert.  That is it.  I love Legursky but he is a situational back up or a center.  Foster is a stop gap and I will not rant on Willie Colon.  I tend to lose focus.

Roethlisberger does need to get rid of the ball quicker many times but he also does not need to get hit as often as he does.  He may have been sacked 35 times which is much lower then normal but that does not take into account how many times he was hit. Roethlisberger went down 76 times this season.  Add the 31 rush attempts to that and he was hit 107 times.

Getting hit 76 times in a season is just ridiculous.  Some on Ben.  Mostly on the Offensive Line.  The Steelers have started to fix it with Pouncey and Gilbert but they need to continue to add pieces.  Whether it be in the draft or free agency something has to happen if Rooney wants to accomplish this goal.
