If the season were to end today, the Seattle Seahawks would be a wildcard team in the NFC playoffs. A large reason for that is rookie signal caller Russell Wilson, overlooked in the 2012 NFL draft, the Seahawks hit the jackpot. Wilson came into training camp with a mindset to compete against free agent prize Matt Flynn and wrestled the starting quarterback job away from him. Of course it’s one thing to win the job; it’s another to keep it. Wilson cemented his play when he upset the New England Patriots early in the season, each week going forward he just kept getting better. Wilson went into the vaunted Soldiers Field and beat the Chicago Bears on a last minute touchdown to Sidney Rice. However, the Chicago game was just one in a line of impressive performances that has the NFL buzzing that the top rookie quarterback isn’t in Indianapolis or Washington D.C., he’s in Seattle quietly leading his team towards a playoff berth. Down the stretch the games only become bigger, and Wilson is up to the challenge. Head Coach Pete Carroll talked about Wilson and how he has complete faith in his young quarterback. “There’s really nothing to hold us back with what we can do and ask the quarterback to do with the system and all of that now. He can really handle the package,” Carroll said according to the Associated Press via the Washington Post. “We’re trying to benefit from that.” “He just has a tremendous level of awareness and poise and it’s just surprising that anybody could be like that, not just a rookie or a young guy in his first shot playing in Chicago or what not,” Carroll said. “He just continues to be impressive in all of those ways.” “We got a little out of whack. That’s like playing in the park then, everything goes and Jay, that was a marvelous move to get free, a great throw, a great adjustment on the catch to get that done and it took all of that. That was a shocking play that it occurred like that. We thought we had it nailed,” Carroll said. “That gave them a great chance to come back in it, which just happened to set up a great chance for overtime and see a young kid win it all.” var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
