Remember when your older brother used to pick on you and beat you in just about everything? Then you would say “just wait til I get older”? That has been the relationship between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots for the last decade. But guess what Boston fans, little brother has gotten a little older.

The Bills are facing their highest expectations in years, and are looking to make the postseason for the first time in 13 years. But it all lies on the right shoulder of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. As they should be, the expectations for Fitz are justified. Among working with a solid receiving corps, a solid two back tandem, an offensive line that allowed a league low 23 sacks in 2011, and an offensive genius in Chan Gailey it should be all smiles for the former Crimson.

For Fitzpatrick, he believes he can handle the pressure that has been laid upon him. He told the Democrat and Chronicle.

If I didn’t love it, I don’t think I would play the position of quarterback

The Bills coaching staff would “love” nothing more than to see Fitzpatrick excel at the highest level this season. But Fitzpatrick should be a little cautious. Buffalo invested six years and 59 million into a guy who fizzled down the stretch despite the broken ribs. This also is a team that is stacked around him on both offense and defense. We all know in this league the motto is “what have you done for me lately?”. If he cannot perform, they will find someone else who will can. So for Fitzpatrick’s sake, today marks the day of “lately”.
