Patrick Robinson says he's eager to fulfill the promise that motivated the New Orleans Saints to make him their first-round draft choice in 2010. Now in his third season, Robinson says he's ready to take over the starting job that opened up when Tracy Porter left for Denver in free agency. Robinson has not been able to practice much in training camp because of a sprained left shoulder. But defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo says Robinson has looked very good when he has been on the field. Robinson says he struggled with assignments and the speed of the game as a rookie, but began to get comfortable last season when he led New Orleans with four interceptions. After sitting out two exhibition games, he's expected to start Friday night against Jacksonville.

Pro-Payton banner seen above practice

On Wednesday, a plane with a banner trailing behind it with the message "Free Payton" made an appearance in the skies above Saints practice.

Cadet carving niche as Saints utility player

At first glance, running back Travaris Cadet would seem like a long shot to make a New Orleans roster that already includes Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram, and Chris Ivory. The undrafted rookie out of Appalachian State has versatility in his favor, though. While he has yet to do much in the running game in two preseason games, his 14 catches lead the team and his 109...

NFL Preseason 2012: Brees’ Value Goes Beyond Numbers For Saints

This season, Drew Brees needs to do it again. I’m not talking about setting records in passing, which he did by throwing for an NFL-record 5,476 yards on a record 468 pass completions. None of that comes into play in terms of what I’m talking about. Since coming to the New Orleans Saints he’s been, statiscally, the best quarterback in the NFL. He’s also been one of the greatest...

Roger Goodell Under Bounty Judge’s Scrutiny: Part 1

The New Orleans Saints and the organization’s vehement supporters may crack a smile this week. After months of bounty banter, the courts now seem to question the legitimacy of the commissioner’s claims against the Saints’ current and former defensive players and coaches. On Wednesday, Judge Helen G. Berrigan issued an order that the NFL furnish evidence of the specific date...

Saints Nation: Saints' Front Four Pass Rush Showing Massive Signs of Improvement

Steve Spagnuolo's desire to transform the Saints' ability to get to the quarterback by relying more heavily on the front four seems to be showing lots of promise. Granted, it's early, very early. As the preseason ends and the Saints start playing real live games with meaning we'll get a better feel for how effective the new plan can be. That said, the idea of having...

The NFL responded Thursday by submitting a letter from the NFLPA along with a sworn statement from Goodell, according to NBCSports.com. The NFL submitted...

New Orleans Saints Potential Breakout Player of 2012: Patrick Robinson

The great thing about the NFL is that there are so many positions that every year, there is almost always at least one player who has a breakout year on every team, no matter how good or bad the team is. This is one part in a 32 part segment detailing one potential breakout player for the 2012 NFL season on each NFL team. For the New Orleans Saints, that player is cornerback Patrick...

NFLPA challenges Goodell's bounty ruling

The NFL Players Association filed documents in federal court disputing Commissioner Roger Goodell's sworn statement that he was prepared to discipline players for their involvement in the Saints bounty pool back in March but waited until May as a courtesy to the union. Attorneys for four players suspended in the bounty investigation have argued the punishment handed down by...

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Jordan Palmer hit Kevin Elliott with an 11-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 13 seconds left, lifting the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 27-24 preseason victory over the New Orleans Saints on Friday night. Even before that score, Jacksonville (No. 31 in the AP Pro 32) saw continued progress from second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who outperformed Drew Brees...
