Saints coaches say they are going to have to get use to the huge void left by Sean Payton's suspension for his role in the team's bounty system. They also might have to get use to life without Drew Brees.
Interim coach Joe Vitt and the rest of the coaching staff met with reporters Monday following the team's rookie minicamp, during which 64 newcomers practiced five times from Friday to Sunday.
Vitt says he and Payton would do a ''lot communicating on the practice field'' and not having the head coach around ''was a huge void right from the get-go.''
Brees remains unsigned after the Saints put the franchise tag on him in March.
Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael sounds confident, saying, ''They will get this worked out.''

When the Saints drafted defensive end Greg Romeus out of Pittsburgh in the 7th round last year, they knew they were getting a recovering injured player that may need to sit out his rookie season. Romeus was decorated in college, finishing with 4 sacks his freshman year, 7.5 sacks his sophomore year and 8 sacks his junior year. Unfortunately for Romeus, in 2010, he first suffered...

The Louisiana State Senate voted to formally request the NFL reconsider penalties against the team as a result of the bounty program the Saints allegedly employed under defensive coordinator Gregg Wiliams. The biggest name still franchise tagged is probably the Saints’ Drew Brees, with apologies to the Bears’ Matt Forte and the Ravens’ Ray Rice. However, the two sides are still not any closer on a long term deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Schefter reported the same thing 2 weeks ago. Before the draft, it sounded like the two sides were making progress, but reports...
There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that the New Orleans Saints will miss head coach Sean Payton this season and in order to honor him, they’ve decided to leave his chair empty during plane and bus rides as well as team meetings for the entire season.
The Saints won’t need to worry about missing Payton too much because he’s rented out some office space right next to the Superdome...
Though Joe Vitt will coach the New Orleans Saints in Sean Payton's absence, no one will sit in the suspended coach's chair while he's away.
