The New Orleans Saints have announced that linebacker Jonathan Vilma requires arthroscopic knee surgery, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, a procedure that is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the preseason.
After seeking 2nd opinion yesterday, Jonathan Vilma is having arthroscopic knee surgery today. Minor, but it is the same knee as before

Vilma is slated to undergo surgery on his knee today after seeking a second opinion Wednesday. The Saints are expecting to have him back in time for the start of the regular season, but considering surgery is involved there is no guarantee. It will largely depend on how Vilma responds to rehab and treatment following the operation.
Until Vilma is able to return, he'll be replaced at weakside linebacker by David Hawthorne. Even before news of Vilma's surgery, the Saints' defense had taken a significant hit, losing Victor Butler and Kenyon Coleman to injuries.
