The New Orleans Saints are learning how opposing defenses must've felt the past few years. Picked apart. Run over. Beaten down. The Saints' defense is on pace for a truly historic season, and that's not a good thing. They have already become the first team since at least 1950 - maybe ever - to give up more than 400 yards in seven straight games. On average, they've surrendered 50 yards more per game than the NFL's next-worst team. If this keeps up, the Saints will obliterate the record for most yards allowed in a season. Not surprisingly, the defending NFC South champions are off to a miserable start, going into Monday night's game against Philadelphia with a 2-5 record. But interim coach Joe Vitt says not major changes are planned.

Help Wanted: Saints defense historically bad

There is only so much Drew Brees can do on offense. Football is a team sport and without the entire team playing on a high-level odds are you aren’t going to win many games. Just how bad are the Saints? Historically bad as the Saints rank dead last in the  NFL in total defense and are on pace to set the league record. They have surrendered 474.7 yards per game and have allowed...

Saints RB Sproles out with injury

New Orleans Saints running back and return specialist Darren Sproles has undergone hand surgery and won't be able to play Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael revealed the seriousness of the injury after Friday's practice. He wouldn't say which hand was injured or even when Sproles was hurt. The player will be re-evaluated...

Brees' horse out of Breeders' race

Worth Repeating, whose owners include New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and Sustained are out of their respective Breeders' Cup races at Santa Anita. Worth Repeating won't run in the $500,000 Marathon, while Sustained is out of the $1 million Juvenile Fillies Turf, with both races to be run later Friday on opening day of the weekend world championships. Trainer...

Saints Nation: Where Art Thou Jimmy Graham?

What's wrong with Jimmy Graham this year? If you're purely interested in his performance as a fantasy football player, you may not think he's been that bad. He's on pace for about 70 receptions for 850 yards and 11 touchdowns this year. Not bad for a tight end, right? But if you're a Saints fan and you've watched the games, you know he's had a miserable...

Saint Injury Report: Darren Sproles Needs Hand Surgery

New Orleans running back Darren Sproles will need surgery on his hand, according to Saints columnist Mike Triplett. Sproles has been ruled out of Monday's game against Philadelphia. Saints head coach Joe Vitt said there is no timetable for Sproles' return. Tripplet indicated that running back Pierre Thomas will have more touches, and Mark Ingram and Chris Ivory could get...

Darren Sproles undergoes surgery on broken hand

According to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Saints running back Darren Sproles will not play against the Eagles on Monday night because of a broken hand that required surgery. Saints interim head coach Joe Vitt was vague on when Sproles will return. Chris Ivory, Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram and even Travaris Cadet could all see an increase in their work load.   ...

Darren Sproles misses practice

According to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Saints running back Darren Sproles was held out of practice today with a hamstring injury. Sproles could end up not playing this week.  The last thing the Saints want is for his hamstring to get worse.   var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName...
