The New Orleans Saints announced Wednesday that head coach Sean Payton has officially signed his extension. The extension now has Payton on the Saints sidelines through 2017.
“Sean has been a critical part of our success, getting him signed to a long-term deal is very important to our organization and we are pleased to have it finalized,” said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis via Pro Football Zone. “We have already begun the process of planning for the 2013 season, turning the page on 2012. We have challenges ahead, but they are nothing we cannot overcome. I know Sean is ready to get back to football in 2013.”
The extension was first reported last month by FOX’s Jay Glazer.
Payton will not be able to return to work until after the Super Bowl as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell ruled last weekend due to his suspension in connection with the bounty scandal.
