For Patriots fans it is finally here, players get to hit something for real and the races for roster spots will begin. The New England Patriots will take to the field for the first time Thursday at home, while their opponents the New Orleans Saints will play for the second time this preseason (after defeating the Arizona Cardinals 17-10 in the Hall of Fame game).
This morning, ESPN reported that New Orleans Saints' linebacker Jonathan Vilma had been offered a deal that would cut his year-long suspension from the NFL in half. Sources suggest that the league proposed the deal with hopes of Vilma dropping his defamation lawsuit against commissioner Roger Goodell.
The NFL denies the claim and calls it "completely inaccurate", according...
Conflicting reports regarding Jonathan Vilma surfaced today, as multiple news outlets released information claiming that the NFL had offered Vilma a reduced suspension for the upcoming season. The Saints’ starting middle linebacker was suspended for the entire season for his alleged involvement in the New Orleans bounty scandal, which also led to the suspension of head coach...
Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson says he still has an investigator working with the FBI on wiretapping allegations involving the New Orleans Saints, but adds that no evidence has been turned over to federal prosecutors at this time.
Authorities have been working on the case since April, when ESPN, citing anonymous sources, said Superdome wiring was rigged so Saints general...
Jonathan Vilma is returning to federal court Friday as a judge hears arguments on the NFL's motion to dismiss the Saints linebacker's lawsuit seeking to overturn his bounty suspension.
It's not clear when U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan will rule, but if she does not dismiss the lawsuit, she could potentially rule on Vilma's request to be allowed to temporarily...

Saints safety Roman Harper said that in 2007, the Patriots took the approach that the penalty could only be a distraction if they let it be. And he said the Saints are adopting...
While, just like every year, the Patriots came into training camp with most of the focus on star quarterback Tom Brady, there are a number of position battles within the club that probably have a little bit less drama than the starting QB role. One of those battles is at the running back position, where Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen (no relation to Ben Vereen, as far as we know...

The Hall of Fame Game
Arizona 10 – Saints 17
Yeah, I’m totally worth it.
Drew Brees: There is a reason, (okay quite a few reasons) he just got a big fat check. Just watch the first drive of this game. After just a handful of padded practices, you’d expect a slow, vanilla offense during the first preseason game...
Andrew Juge of the Saints Nation stops by to discuss Jonathan Vilma getting a deal and why Jeff Duncan can get fly a @#$^& kite and needs to at least be consistent. Andrew hates Duncan with the passion of 1000 suns. Ralph explains why having to compliment Mike Florio during bounty fest made him feel really dirty. Ralph wonders who the hell is going to play corner back against...
History unfolds Thursday night when the New Orleans Saints visit the New England Patriots in pre-season football. It will mark the first time that two 5,000-yard QBs take the field together. It will probably the only time they do until at least 2013.
