The New Orleans Saints announced Saturday, as many expected, that former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has been officially hired by the team.
After a long wait, much more than the 5 minutes Ryan boasted he would be out of job, he lands with a team that's on a mission to regain prominence after the 'Bountygate' scandal.
They're also switiched to a 3-4 defensive alignment which makes Ryan the perfect man for the job out of any coaching candidates available.
Ryan flirted with the Rams and looked to be headed to St. Louis until both sides felt it wasn't a good fit.
"We have experience in preparing and playing against his defenses and they've always been challenging in terms of the different looks and pressures that they feature," Saints head coach Sean Payton said, via ESPN.com. "We've had the chance to visit with each other and talk about our visions for our team and I'm excited about moving forward as we prepare for the 2013 season."
"I have had the opportunity to get to know Sean Payton and his staff a bit better recently and I am excited about joining the team," Ryan said in a statement released by the Saints.
"I'm ready to get to work on all facets of the game. This is a great opportunity and we're getting started right away."

In only one day after interviewing with the New Orleans Saints, Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has withdrawn his name from the Saints' vacant defensive coordinator search.
That would seemingly leave Rob Ryan as the guy taking the job, who conveniently interviewed today for the job. Grantham must have been told he's not getting the job, and decided to prempt...
Rob Ryan has been known to be very outspoken, just like his brother Rex. The Saints are trying to limit his exposure with the media by putting in his contract that he can only talk when he has permission.
Violation of NFL media policy. RT @andy_fenelon: Rob Ryan’s contract says he can’t talk to press unless ok’d by Greg Bensel, Sr. VP/comm.

The Saints have hired Rob Ryan as their new defensive coordinator and added Stan Kwan as an assistant special teams coach.
Saints coach Sean Payton, who announced the additions to his staff on Saturday, says the Saints found Ryan's defenses challenging when they played his previous teams. In 2010, Ryan was Cleveland's defensive coordinator when the Browns beat the Saints...
For the last week it was a reported lock that the Saints were signing Rob Ryan as their defensive coordinator and going through the motions of the interview process before that. Today it's now been made official. It's a really strange turn of events after Rob Ryan was signed earlier this offseason to take over the Rams' defense, replacing Gregg Williams, before ultimately...

Ryan spent the last two seasons in Dallas but was let go at the end of the season. Ryan quipped that he would be out of work for five minutes and reports circulated that he was set to coach the Rams defensive unit in 2013. Hours later the Rams...

METAIRIE, La. (AP) -- Saints coach Sean Payton has chosen Rob Ryan as his new defensive coordinator, hoping New Orleans can overhaul a unit that was historically bad last season.

The New Orleans Saints have hired Rob Ryan as the team’s new defensive coordinator. Ryan, dismissed by the Dallas Cowboys last month, will now oversee the Saints defense as the team converts from a 4-3 alignment to a 3-4 scheme. Ryan had been thought earlier this month to be the next defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams, but at the last moment, the two sides appeared to...
The New Orleans Saints obviously knew what they were getting into when they hired a Ryan brother.
According to Andy Fenelon of NFL.com, the Saints put a provision in Rob Ryan's contract that says the newly hired defensive coordinator can't speak to the media unless it's first approved by the team's senior vice president of communications, Greg Bensel. That is likely...
