It’s easy to quantify a player’s contributions to his team. You take whatever relevant stats you can gather, compound them in a way you think reveals their contributions most accurately, then you argue until you’re blue in the face about which athlete is the best. Then you call everyone who disagrees with you an idiot. Then you comment on someone’s article about what an idiot they are for not mentioning your guy in certain discussions. It’s great fun really. Unfortunately applying that logic to a head coach is a trickier endeavor and, at best, an inexact science. We can say that all a team needs is a great coach and a great QB to be among the best, but if that’s the case, why haven’t the Patriots won the last ten Super Bowls?… Read more

NFL overturns Saints bounty suspensions

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue has overturned the suspensions of four current and former New Orleans Saints players in the league's bounty investigation of the club. Tagliabue, however, found that the players' conduct was detrimental to the league. He says they participated in a performance pool that rewarded key plays -- including hard tackles...

(Credit: Associated Press) Four players that played for the New Orleans Saints had been previously suspended by commissioner Roger Goodell for their roles in the Saints pay-for-injury scandal led by former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. NEW ORLEANS — Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue has overturned the suspensions of four current and former New Orleans Saints players in the league’s bounty investigation of the club. Saints Nation: Paul Tagliabue Rules to Vacate Saints' Player Suspensions Entirely

The Bounty Gate saga may be nearing it's end after all. Paul Tagliabue has vacated the suspensions of Jonathan Vilma, Will Smith, Anthony Hargrove and Scott Fujita in their entirety. Wow. I figured Vilma may get the last 3 games as punishment, and the others might have some reductions, but this I did not anticipate. Of course, having their suspensions vacated is a far cry from...

Bounty ruling for players finally at hand

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- More than nine months after the NFL first disclosed its bounty investigation of the New Orleans Saints, four players will finally get a ruling on whether their initial suspensions are upheld, reduced or thrown out. Former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, who was appointed to handle a second round of player appeals to the league, has informed all parties he planned...

Saints Nation: Offensive Player Grades @ Giants

The Saints ran the ball very well, enjoyed a solid performance from their offensive line, and yet four turnovers will be the biggest takeaway (no pun intended) from this game. While the 27 points they put up were nice, shooting themselves in the foot with costly mistakes never really gave the team a chance to win the game. This unit has spiraled out of control the last three weeks...

A victory for the players: Tagliabue vacates all player discipline in NFL bounty case

Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue has issued a ruling regarding the the player suspension appeals in the New Orleans Saints’ bounty case. After current commissioner Roger Goodell recused himself from the situation, Tagliabue maintained that the League’s findings against Anthony Hargrove, Will Smith, and Jonathan Vilma were factual but rescinded the suspensions set fourth upon [...]

Saints Nation: Defensive and Special Teams Player Grades @ Giants

Special teams is much tougher to grade than defense because a lot of times mistakes are hard to pin point. But in theory, the entire unit deserves an F for how they covered kickoffs. That was a joke and David Wilson pretty much won this game on his own. It was also an up and down performance by the defense, which looked ok at times and seemed to revert back to early season form at...

New Orleans Saints at New York Giants point spread, line and odds

The New Orleans Saints (5-7) hit the road on Sunday to play at the New York Giants (7-5). Scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. EST kickoff this game will air as the Fox late game in most locations. After a mid-season streak of wins the Saints are coming off of back-to-back losses against San Francisco and Atlanta. The Saints still have not figured it out on defense allowing 27 points per game...
