On the same day Drew Brees skipped the start of mandatory minicamp, it’s being reported by ProFootballTalk.com that the Saints and their frustrated franchise player are closer in contract talks than previously thought.
Per PFT, which cites an anonymous source, the Saints are offering Brees a contract worth close to $19 million per year, with Brees believed to be seeking less than $21 million annually. Previous reports indicated the All-World quarterback’s demands were closer to $23 million, but that, apparently, is not the case.
However, this hardly guarantees an agreement is imminent. PFT suggests a game of “tug-o-war” is taking place, with both parties firmly entrenched in their positions and unwilling to budge. Over the next few days, the New Orleans Saints will conduct their June mandatory minicamp and of course franchise quarterback Drew Brees won’t be in attendance as he continues to wait for the Saints to get their act together and pay him.
