LB Marvin Mitchell, S Usama Young, and WR Courtney Roby will be back in black and gold next season. Each signed their one year tenders from the Saints and will be back for one more season.
Mitchell, a fourth year LB from Tennessee, is expected to compete for Scott Fujita’s vacated starting spot. He recorded 27 tackles last season in limited action, but was a key part of the Saints’ special teams.
Young, signed as a CB out of Kent State, is expected to compete for the starting safety spot if the team is not able to come to terms with free agent Darren Sharper.
Roby, an NFL journeyman who has found a home in New Orleans, served as the team’s main kick returner last season.
That now leaves the Saints with two unrestricted free agents – safety Darren Sharper and quarterback Mark Brunell. The remaining unsigned restricted free agents – running back Pierre Thomas, tackle Jammal Brown, guard Jahri Evans, wide receiver Lance Moore and safety Roman Harper – would have enjoyed unrestricted status had the league’s collective bargaining agreement not expired in March.
