When Kyle Williams fumbled a punt in overtime of the NFC Championship, the San Francisco 49ers’ season was all but finished.

Only four plays after the muffed punt, New York Giants kicker, Lawrence Tynes, made it official with a 31-yard field goal.

The Niners have had an entire offseason to digest and dwell on the pain, the hurt, and the what ifs.

All of that time to replay and relive the disappointment of an almost Super Bowl appearance comes to a head in a few days at Candlestick in San Francisco.

There is no doubt that Candlestick is one the most exciting venues in all of football. The stadium is rich in history and not the most enjoyable place to be the opposing team.

A few of those opposing teams, however, are very good and Super Bowl contenders themselves, which makes for great football in San Francisco this season. Which game am I looking forward to the most? Which team traveling to Candlestick will be the most exciting and generate a can't-miss hype?
October 14th, write it down, circle it on your calender, and put it in your planner. The New York Giants are going back to San Francisco for a rematch of the NFC Championship. A contest that saw the Giants win an overtime thriller 20-17.

The Giants then went on to win the Super Bowl , leaving San Francisco as an afterthought. There is no doubt in my mind that the 49ers’ players have already circled this date on their calenders. Ten months is a long time to wait for revenge, but that’s exactly what the Niners will be looking for in October.

There are some new faces in this age-old rivalry, the biggest being the Niners’ acquisition of Randy Moss. The Giants have also changed slightly, losing their bruising back Brandon Jacobs. Will any of these offseason changes affect the outcome? I guess we’ll just have to wait until October to see these two teams clash in San Francisco.
