Charly Martin (AP Photo/Elaine Thompson) The San Francisco 49ers claimed wide receiver Charly Martin off waivers earlier this week.  Martin  is an undrafted third year player out of West Texas A&M .  Last year he only played in four games and had four receptions for 42 yards.  What’s intriguing about this acquisition is the relationship between the 49ers and Martins previous team, the Seattle Seahawks.  Is it just coincidence that just a day after the Seahawks claimed long snapper Kyle Nelson (released by the niners) the 49ers came right back and claimed a former Seahawk?  With the injury to Michael Crabtree, there is a need at the wide receiver position for the 49ers but Martin isn’t necessarily a name that would be considered a difference maker.  Truth be told, he probably won’t even make the final 53 man roster.  So why all the intrigue? This goes back to the signing of safety Craig Dahl, formerly of the St. Louis Rams .  Dahl said that the 49ers would tip plays which allowed the Rams defenders to ignore play action fakes.  The 49ers were 0-1-1 against the Rams last year.  Only the coaching staff knows if this information is any useful and coach Harbaugh said that what Dahl’s comments only confirmed what their scouting reports suspected.  Even though Dahl received some negative reactions from some of his former teammates, what he did is justified.  From the moment he signed that contract, the 49ers became his new team and his duty was to do anything he could to help his team win football games. Martin may be a long shot to make the final roster, but is he decides to share any information regarding his stint in Seattle the coaching staff will gladly listen.  Knowing the history of these two teams, this will definitely not be the last of these types of roster moves.  The fans sure welcome this type of gamesmanship, specially if it makes for football chatter in mid July.
