The New York Jets are still treating the NFL as if it were its own personal big top. 

The Geno Smith vs. Mark Sanchez battle will not be your average position battle.

We knew this the second that Smith was drafted. What seemed sensible is the idea that that Jets owner Woody Johnson would have circled the wagons and put a gag order on the troops making negative statements.

It should not be that hard to say ‘ everybody play nice when talking to the media and don’t take a side. Both of these guys will fight for the spot and the best man will win.’

At the very least, that should have been communicated to resident lightning rod Santonio Holmes.

His reputation precedes him and it won’t take much for anything he says to get blown out proportion.

So why does Holmes have comments surfacing that back Sanchez?
