New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham had wrist surgery earlier this month, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The surgery is keeping Graham from playing in this Sunday's Pro Bowl. He was selected as an alternate after the Atlanta Falcons' Tony Gonzalez backed out of the game. Instead, the Minnesota Vikings' Kyle Rudolph will play. Graham reportedly played through the wrist injury for much of the season and did not miss practice. He made 85 receptions for 982 yards with nine touchdowns but led the NFL with 14 drops. It is not clear how much time Graham will need to recover.

Sean Payton eyeing former Patriots defensive coordinators Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini for new 3-4 defense

Sean Payton is a fan of the Patriot way; he has modeled large parts of the Saints after the New England franchise. However, Payton is taking it a step further and is looking at former Patriots defensive coordinators Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini, not one of them but possibly both via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. Both coaches have been head coaches and would bring almost an entire...

Saints Targeting Romeo Crennel As Their Next Defensive Coordinator?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed previous speculation that Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini are being considered for the Saints defensive coordinator vacancy. Pro Football Talk reports that sources have confirmed that the Saints do in fact have interest in both candidates, but New Orleans reportedly has “more interest in Crennel than Eric Mangini.“ Sean Payton has already said...

NFL Rumors: Former New Orleans Saints Gregg Williams expected to join Tennessee Titans

Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was recently cleared for a return to the league and look for work. Williams had been suspended for one year by the NFL after his involvement in the Saints Bountygate scandal. Williams had left the Saints as a free agent and was quickly hired by the St. Louis Rams as the team’s defensive coordinator. Shortly after being...

Saints Fire Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo After Just One Season

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints have fired defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo after one season — a record-setting year in the wrong way. New Orleans ranked last in the NFL in total defense and run defense, yielding the most yards (7,042) ever in a single season. The Saints went 7-9 this season and allowed 454 points — only the Tennessee Titans gave up more. Head coach...

Saints TE Jimmy Graham Had To Turn Down Pro Bowl After Wrist Surgery

Saints tight end Jimmy Graham had surgery to repair his lingering wrist injury earlier this month, a league source confirmed. As a result, Graham had to turn down the opportunity to play in the Pro Bowl when starter Tony Gonzalez also pulled out of the game with an injury this week. Graham was the first alternate for the NFC all-star squad. Instead, Minnesota Vikings tight end...

Saints Nation: NFC Blows Out AFC 62-35 as Brees Plays Well

With the number of injuries that preceded the Pro Bowl I was surprised to see Drew Brees, Jahri Evans and Jermon Bushrod all starting for the NFC on the opening series, considering two of those three weren't even on the team when it was originally announced. All three of them played fine and Brees ended with a stat line of 8 for 11 for 131 yards and a nice touchdown pass to Vincent...

New Orleans Saints fire Steve Spagnuolo, plan for 3-4 defense

The NFL reinstated New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton this week. On his first day back as the Saints head coach, Peyton wasted little time trying to right the ship after a disastrous season. The first order of business for the Saints head coach was the firing of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Spagnuolo replaced former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams last season...

Report: Romeo Crennel, Eric Mangini Drawing Attention From Saints for Defensive Coaching Positions

A couple of members of the extended Bill Parcells coaching tree may be jumping to another branch. Romeo Crennel and Eric Mangini, who both saw success as defensive coaches under Parcells protege Bill Belichick, are being contacted by the Saints as New Orleans looks to fill its defensive coordinator position, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Crennel and Mangini could both end...

Saints Fire Steve Spagnuolo; Switching to 3-4

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton was recently reinstated by the National Football League, and he hasn’t waited long to make his presence known. Yesterday Payton and the Saints announced that they were parting ways with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and switching to a 3-4 defense. "I personally want to thank Steve and Ken for their contributions during what...

Spagnuolo out as Saints defensive coordinator

The past two weeks the Saints have locked up head coach Sean Payton with an extension, the NFL reinstated him a few days back, and now he has fired two of their defensive assistants. One of them being defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Payton stated the move was part of a defensive transition to a 3-4 defense. But in actuality, the 2012...

Saints Looking At Romeo Crennel, Eric Mangini For Assistant Positions

A day after reinstated Saints coach Sean Payton fired defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Times-Picayune's Larry Holder reports New Orleans has reached out to former Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel to possibly fill the new vacancy. The move could be a good one. Though Crennel has been a disaster in his two head coaching jobs in Cleveland and Kansas City, he's had success...

Roger Goodell Hung in Effigy as He Arrives in New Orleans For Super Bowl

Saying that the Saints fans are holding a grudge against Roger Goodell would be like saying that Kevin Garnett trash talking is on a Shakespeare level. Saints fans are really mad at Goodell to the point I think he might need Carmelo Anthony’s bodyguard while he is walking around town. Here are some of the things Saints fans are doing in lieu of his arrival. An effigy of NFL Commissioner...

Roger Goodell and New Orleans: Time to Bury the Hatchet

Roger Goodell is heading into the Lions’ den, not Ford Field, New Orleans, Louisiana.Super Bowl week begins on January 28 and the people of the city are prepared to give Goodell a welcome that would rival how the Ravens’ defense plans to welcome 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Super Bowl Sunday.Pictures of Goodell are displayed all over restaurants and bars throughout the...
