Earlier today the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported that Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has said that he would love to become the Browns’ next head coach. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a source close McDaniels denies that he said that he wants to be the Browns next head coach. Despite a report that Josh McDaniels “would love” to coach the Browns, one source close to the Patriots OC insisted there was nothing to it. The source in constant contact with McDaniels said nobody “has said a word to anyone about this” and McDaniels “hasn’t thought about anything but this season all year-long.”   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.coun...

NFL Report: Dolphins claim Dimitri Patterson

The Browns waived CB Dimitri Patterson yesterday, supposedly because they were upset about how long it took him to recover from an ankle sprain, and because they were “impressed” with Buster Skrine in his absence. Patterson was not in limbo for very long- “Per a league source, the Dolphins claimed Patterson on waivers. Patterson, who has a guaranteed base salary of $2.95 million...

Browns rumors still surfacing from Boston

Before proceeding, I would emphasize what follows is a rumor, and has not been confirmed. But it comes from the Boston Globe and its excellent NFL writer Greg Bedard. He was one of the first guys who reported that Joe Banner would hire Mike Lombardi as the teams new GM, after Banner let Tom Heckert go. Bedard attributed that report to two independent sources he calls influential...

James-Michael Johnson was placed on Injured Reserve for the Browns

Browns placed LB James-Michael Johnson (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season. The rookie fourth-rounder will not need surgery on the knee. Johnson started eight of 10 games this season, recording 36 tackles while playing primarily on early downs. With Scott Fujita’s Cleveland career likely over and Chris Gocong’s (Achilles) future in question, Johnson is a good bet to...

Browns' growth continues with Scheiner hire

Jimmy Haslam's organization is starting to take shape. Tuesday the team announced the hiring of Alec Scheiner as president and said vice president Bryan Wiedmeier, who is battling brain cancer, will shift to a new role working with CEO Joe Banner on long-term strategic planning. Scheiner, who takes over Jan. 7, and Banner will do much of the work guiding the organization. Scheiner...

Julian Edelman Is Fan Friendly

I’m the original Wes Welker-type Juan… Julian Edelman is one of the whiteboy skill position players that the Patriots utilized this season, but an injury took him out early.  Edelman was just getting warmed up when the injury hit.  Never know what Belichick will do, but Edelman just reminds you of a Belichick guy. To fear or embrace Joe Banner?

The scariest part is the not knowing. Even knowing what we think we know about who won’t be in Cleveland next year – namely Pat Shurmur and Tom Heckert – that uncertainty about who will replace them is even scarier. I think most have resigned themselves by this point to just about any alternative to Pat Shurmur. I know that’s not 100 percent in the fan base at this point...

Browns S T.J. Ward Done for Season with Bone Bruise

Browns S T.J. Ward will miss the remainder of the season due to a bone bruise, according to Mary Kay Cabot. Cabot also says that the safety is likely headed to IR, which would open up a roster spot for Cleveland as the season winds to a close. Ward was one of the better players on a surprisingly-average Cleveland Browns team this season and his ability to stop the run will be missed...

NFL Coroner's Report: Cleveland Browns Autopsy

Before Week 15, there were eight victims of the NFL grind, and with arguable exceptions, they were all declared 'dead men walking' quite some time ago. After Week 15's slate of games, there would be another quartet of lifeless masses heaped upon the Football Nation Morgue, all with just a smidgen more optimism than that original group of tagged-and-bagged cases. As these...

Patriots Can Still Rely on Stevan Ridley Even if Recent Case of Fumbilitis Is Raising Eyebrows

Stevan Ridley had a chance to be a breakout rookie during the Patriots’ march to the Super Bowl last season. But the young running back’s fatal flaw forced him to the sidelines for nearly the entire playoff run. Ridley, who has emerged as one of the NFL’s best tailbacks this season, has shown a tendency to fumble during his first two seasons. Two fumbles late in 2011 were cause...

Josh McDaniels/Mike Lombardi/Ryan Mallett team up in Cleveland

Michael Lombardi was on the BS Report with Bill Simmons podcast yesterday and when asked about this, he just said no one has contacted him yet. So, obviously all of this is speculation at this point.Mike Florio was the first to bring this idea to the forefront and he was met with some skepticism. Now Greg Bedard, a trusted source in Boston media, is chiming in more on this. Bedard...
