Parting is such sweet sorrow, unless you’re going to get fired anyways. Owner Clark Hunt and GM Scott Pioli mutually agreed to severe their four year partnership.
With the Andy Reid hiring looming and his demand to bring his own personnel guy in, there was no more need for Pioli. Pioli put two and two together and exited before the headline would read that he was fired.
Pioli had worn out his welcome in Kansas City after going through 2 head coaches in 4 years. Also, his style of the buck stops with him clashed with Hunt’s new found philosophy of creating a direct line to him for the next coach.
Pioli known as a control freak who likes to control the flow of information coming out of the organization, as well as incoming seemed to alienate almost everyone in the organization, as well as the fan base, who has been screaming for him to be fired.
Sources according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, that the team's move to go separate ways with Pioli, does not necessarily mean a deal has been finalized with Reid.
"After several productive conversations, we made the difficult decision to part ways with Scott Pioli and allow him to pursue other opportunities," owner Clark Hunt said.
"Scott has been an invaluable member of the Chiefs family since joining us in 2009, and we sincerely appreciate his tremendous contributions over the last four years.”
