Let’s face it. We’re spoiled. Winning has become the expectation and the Patriots have rarely failed to disappoint. Led by a once-in-a-lifetime quarterback and arguably one of the top five coaches of all time, the Patriots captured three Super Bowl titles in the past decade. But those days of Willie McGinest, Tedy Bruschi and Ty Law making crunch time plays are long gone. It’s 2011, and the defense features Andre Carter, Rob Ninkovich and Kyle Arrington as its top playmakers. They’re not household names. The Redskins let Carter walk after a poor season as a 3-4 outside linebacker, Ninkovich is a former fifth-round pick who has only started for two seasons and Arrington was an undrafted free agent from Hofstra. While the talent may not be flashy, the Patriots still remain one of the best in the business at managing a roster, according to Matt Williamson of ESPN and Scouts Inc. “It’s easy to be critical of Belichick lately because they’re so light in the secondary and the def...

Should Andre Carter Be Considered a Great Pass Rusher?

New England Patriots defensive end Andre Carter was recently named Week 10′s AFC Defensive Player of the Week. The award is definitely well deserving as Carter recorded four sacks in New England’s 37-16 thrashing against the New York Jets. Carter has quietly been thriving in his first season as a Patriot, as he’s tallied up eight sacks on the season, which is...

It’s As Useless As Chad Ochocinco Game Show

It’s time to play everybody’s favorite game show “It’s As Useless As Chad Ochocinco”! Ochocinco’s 2011 football season has been has been awful to say the least. When Chad actually finds himself on the field, he ends up contributing nothing to the potent New England Patriots offense. Through 9 games, Ocho has 201 receiving yards on 11 receptions...

Mankins happy so far, except for `horrible call'

By Paul KenyonFOXBORO _ Logan Mankins has been getting singled out more than usual this season. Most of the time that has been good news for the all-pro guard, but there have been some negatives, as well. Mankins was one of the big stories for the Patriots in training camp. After spending an unhappy season wearing the franchise tag, he reported on time this year and promptly signed...

Wes Welker Feels 'All Right' As He Gets Ready for Chiefs

FOXBORO, Mass. -- Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has gone through a tough stretch with injuries over the last few weeks, but he's not worried about his status for Monday's game against the Chiefs. Welker hurt his neck against the Chiefs, his rib against the Giants and his knee against the Jets. He's been on the injury report with three different ailments in three weeks...

Random pictures of the day: ESPN’s Monday Night Football bus has arrived

One way to know that the Patriots will play on Monday Night Football is that they will be watching Sunday’s games from home. Um, yeah. Obvious. The other way is that the Monday Night Football Bus has arrived. And that’s always cool. ESPN’s bus features interviews with Jon Gruden and others, and Patriots spent some time there after practice today. Here is a look...

Video of the day: The Herald’s Patriots reporters break down Chiefs week

Sure, it hasn’t been the crazy week that we saw when the Patriots geared up to play the Jets. But it’s been active, nonetheless. Injuries, a new face on the 53-man roster, and some formerly unknown players making names for themselves. Oh, and we have an extra day to talk about it because the Patriots will play the Chiefs on Monday Night Football. Before all that, colleague...

Patriots Buffet Table – Chiefs at Patriots

by Patriots Daily Kitchen Staff Chiefs coach Todd Haley is incredibly superstitious. He has the second largest rabbit foot collection in the NFL (behind Rex Ryan duh). He also scored the lowest in “Plays well with others” in each of his four years in kindergarten. What to eat? Ol’ friend Miz is preparing Korean BBQ beef this week, or Bulgogi. Todd Haley also...

Handy man

No one ever took Rob Ninkovich for a hands man. Two interceptions Sunday night against the Jets go a long way in blowing that perception to bits, especially when one is returned for a 12-yard touchdown.

NFL Preview - Kansas City (4-5) at New England (6-3) (ET)

The last time the New England Patriots faced the Kansas City Chiefs, an injury to Tom Brady created an opportunity for Matt Cassel to earn himself a job as an NFL starting quarterback.

Take A Deep Breath, Everyone

By Dan Zeigarnik. Patriots Daily Staff What a whirlwind the last 3 weeks have been. I know that everyone talks about the ups and downs of an NFL season, but I don’t quite think that having our fans yo-yoing like an ADHD sugar-laden kid is what we had in mind. "It is what it is." Just a week ago all the focus was on the atrocious losses to Pittsburgh and Giants. The Patriots...

Bill Belichick hasn't hit on every personnel move in his time with the Patriots, but Chiefs GM Scott Pioli thinks it's "ridiculous" for anyone to doubt the New England coach.
