Seahawks fans have “full-contact high” from winning

Seahawks fans, it has been proven…sort of Seattle Seahawks fans love their homegrown winning ways. I’m at Nordstrom Ebar reporting on the events of this post-election day. People in Washington state are abuzz with the sensation of Seattle’s decisive football victory. Beating the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9 has had a lasting effect. I should know, I’ve had a spike in readership after the Seahawks’ 30 – 20 win, and the viewers keep coming. I suppose I ought to thank the Seahawks for creating this sensation and Greg Scruggs for confusing the Fox Broadcasters with his dance. Apparently the “Gangnam Style” dance hasn’t pervaded their press booth yet. Decisive wins are great. May I also thank the great Minnesota Vikings fans for their turnout? I thought the San Francisco 49ers had a considerable fan base in greater Seattle. It looks like the Vikings fans also enjoy a sizable presence in the Pacific Northwest too. I wonder how many Nordic-Seahawks fans reside in Ballard. Those locals familiar with the Ballard neighborhood may understand my reference. I have a friend who supports the Vikings. Outside of last week’s game, I don’t see much conflict. I’ve avoided that conversation with him. However, if he brings it up, I’ll simply say “Your guys will probably beat Detroit next week.” One thing I’ve learned about football, and competitive sports in general, is that you have to move on. There’s no time to dwell on wins or losses. I am impressed at how many people support other NFL teams here in the Pacific Northwest. Perhaps Seattle plays a great host to these other teams.   Spokesmen from the NFL and NBA told USA Today that marijuana remains prohibited under their respective anti-drug rules for all players regardless of the state laws. Washington state NFL fans, on NFL property, smoke weed, you’ll likely get punted off stadium grounds. No coach’s challenges, no time outs, no -four downs to reach the line-to-gain. Nope. No dope. Could it take until the next CBA to ratify this?   How have fans responded to this legislation? How will this affect players, who undoubtedly will be out on social calls with friends and family when someone decides to light up. As with any (pop culture) paradigm shifts, there’s a period of acclimation, new social potocols, pardon me, “pro-to-cols” and new viral videos. Imagine the rise in tourism in Washington. Imagine Skittles sales numbers. I imagine the NFL will have a policy that restricts the use of marijuana on any NFL sanctioned venue. Perhaps they’re restrictions will force some ingenuity. Will there be ‘bud gardens” cropping up close to stadiums and practice venues? Like their counterpart the beer-garden, bud-gardens would be a major draw to those who enjoy that sort of thing. But how many of those supporters of legalizing marijuana are NFL fans?  If you’re into loco weed, you happen to play for a team in Colorado or Washington state, and you think that the bills passed on Tuesday that allow the possession and use of marijuana apply to you … well, you might want to check on that. According to the NFL, there’s state law and the league’s collective bargaining agreement, and players should expect to heed the latter if there’s a dispute.   After reading that last piece, I can see it’s only a matter of time and juvenile-humor before new marketing trends occur in the greenhouses. Coming up with interesting names doesn’t require getting up from the couch. C’mon, that was funny. From what I understand, people who use the marijuana are always on the couch. I can’t help but think how provocative that statement sounds. Looking for Mr. Goodbar, finding Mr. Goodell (Getty Images)   As goes the federal government’s view on the subject, so goes the NFL’s, and likely, all other nationally sanctioned corporations’ views. What pressures could arise from the opposition between Washington state (local Seahawks fans) and the NFL? Will Seahawks’(organization) employee contracts change? It’s obvious at this point the players cannot celebrate, but what about drug-testing for workers who light up after work? Incidentally, the vote is being reviewed for accuracy, so it’s not a done deal yet. While law enforcement officials may be directed to relax their previous views on marijuana use and/or possession, with a forecasted change in law, it’s the attitudes of the beneficiaries of this amendment that interest me. Will there be mutual support and respect between the two sides during this transition? There’re always bad apples that spoil the bunch. What speed is “high” anyway?   The New York Jets will visit Seattle and CenturyLink Field this Sunday to play the Seahawks in yet another inter-conference contest between an NFC West and AFC East team. The New York Jets are sometimes referred to as “Gang Green.” After a change in legislation, in a bit of tongue-in-cheekery, 12th Man, Fan, Van, Dan, may celebrate being the newer, bigger, greener gang. Let’s agree to outfit this (practically) decriminalized group as “The Green Team.”             SEAHAWKS MONTH+ AT-A-GLANCE     It’d be nice for the Seahawks to punch this last game before their bye.I said it before, I’ll say it again…what was I saying?
