Seahawks beat Jaguars 45-17
The score seems like a pretty decisive victory but to be honest the game was not even that close. After jumping out to a two touchdown lead by early in the second quarter the Seahawks played a fairly vanilla game, both offensively and defensively.
Zach Miller’s first touchdown of two in the game was anything but vanilla. When Zach threw what appeared to be a typical Seahawks chop block everyone, including myself, thought he was nothing more than a blocker on the play.
The way he popped back up to his feet and became wide open in the end zone was completely by design, hats off to Darrell Bevell for the design and call.
That play will set up plays in the future
Teams will see what Miller did on film which will cause the outside rusher to hesitate before they crash down on the line. In situations where the Seahawks only need little yardage any hesitation can be the difference in a positive outcome versus a negative one.
It was evident early on that the Seahawks intended to win the game but Pete Carroll and his team had no intentions on embarrassing their former defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.
Despite the loss Jacksonville can hang their hat on the fact that they scored 7 more points against the Seahawks defense than the Panthers and 49ers did combined. Quarterback Chad Henne threw for twice as many yards than Colin Kaepernick did last week and nearly twice as many as Cam Newton had against the Legion of Boom in week 1.
Offensively the Seahawks seemed to be able to move the ball at will gaining a season high 479 yards of total offense.
Wilson after a punter?
Russell Wilson tied a career high with 4 touchdown passes in less than 3 quarters of work Sunday. Unfortunately he threw a pass slightly behind Golden Tate and the pass bounced off his hand leading to Wilson’s second interception in as many games.
Wilson had a nice day. 4 TD passes.
A play that really bothered me was when Russell was trying to avoid pressure when he was sacked from behind by Jonathan Cyprien. Cyprien went directly for the strip of the ball. This season I have noticed a lot of chasing defenders swatting at the ball while chasing Wilson.
One of the biggest knocks I have on Russell is that he tends to leave the ball exposed as he tries to escape pressure. The more often defenders are able to knock the ball loose the more opposing defensive coordinators will tell their team to go after the strip.
The Seahawks were very efficient in the passing game, even after they replaced Russell Wilson with backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.
All Jackson did was complete seven of eight passing attempts for 129-yards and a touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin that could not have been a better placed pass nor could it have been a better catch by an outstretched receiver.
Oh, did I mention Tarvaris Jackson had a perfect rating of 158.3?
Christine Michael had his first career rushing attempt and finished the game with 9 carries for 37 yards. Fellow rookie Luke Willson caught his first career pass and ended the afternoon with 5 receptions for 76 yards and now leads all Seahawks tight ends in yards receiving.
For the second straight week Kam Chancellor intercepted a pass when he read Jaguars’ quarterback Chad Henne’s eyes and stepped right in front of the receiver.
Joining Chancellor with an interception was Bobby Wagner.
Bobby picked up his first interception of the season after finishing his rookie season last year with 3 and adding another in a playoff loss to the Falcons.
Michael Bennett continued to get a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks finishing the game with 1.5 sacks and 4 quarterback hits. Clinton McDonald also had 1.5 sacks and a couple of quarterback hits.
Today was more about the Seahawks offense than the defense, even-though the defense only gave up 265 yards. Most defenses would consider that an accomplishment but in three games this season it was the most the defense has given up.
I have to believe that was in part due to Gus Bradley’s knowledge of the Seahawks defense.
Bradley has the least talented offense they have seen this year. Adding to it was the fact that the Seahawks played as many backups as they could for the final quarter of play.
I would like to end this piece by complimenting the entire team on only having 4 penalties for 24 yards. Clinton McDonald and Richard Sherman deserve an extra pat on the back for pulling Bobby Wagner away from separate scuffles where he could have picked up a personal foul if left to his own devises.
3-0 sounds real good!

Relaxed and grinning, Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch watched Tarvaris Jackson and Christine Michael finish the job. The Seattle Seahawks dealt with the Jacksonville Jaguars just like champions should: strike early, strike hard, then get some time for the second string.
The Seahawks improved to 3-0 with a 45-17 mauling of the Jaguars. By the end of the third quarter, the backups...
According to the Seattle Times, Seahawks wide receiver Jermaine Kearse was moving around well on Monday after spraining his ankle against the Jaguars this past Sunday. Carroll said WR Jermaine Kearse, who left the game early with a sprained ankle, was “moving around pretty well today” and that he got rid of his boot shortly after leaving the stadium yesterday “trying to...
Zach Miller (@NFLRT)
As a diehard fan of the Oakland Raiders, I was irate and disappointed when Zach Miller departed the East Bay for the Emerald City in 2011. Prior to making his Seahawks move, Miller was quickly becoming one of the Raiders best offensive weapons recording 226 receptions, 2,712 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns over four seasons with the Silver and Black. Miller’s...
The Seattle Seahawks shocked many when they took Texas A&M running back Christine Michael in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. Last season at Texas A&M, Michael’s rushing production took a hit but that was because of a man named Johnny Football. Usually a running back picked in the first two rounds is expected to start but obviously the Seahawks were set with Beast...
The Seattle Seahawks easily dispatched of the Jacksonville Jaguars at Century Link Field, 45-17. It doesn't sound like it was a close game, but in reality, it was even more of a blowout than that. So much so that Seattle pulled starting quarterback Russell Wilson and other starters out, midway through the third quarter when the Seahawks already led 31-7. The other two scores...
’72 Dolphins all over again?
If they play all of their remaining games at Century Link, I would have no doubt. Let’s think about this realistically for a second though because while it’s still early, I’m starting to wonder if the Seattle Seahawks could make the impossible, possible and go undefeated for the 2013 season.
With 3 wins against the 49ers, Panthers, and Jaguars...
Little known, Doug Baldwin, is certainly raising eyebrows once again. Baldwin, who arrived in Seattle in 2011 as an undrafted free agent is starting the 2013 season off absolutely on fire.
Success has not been a stranger to Doug, however. If you’ll remember in his rookie year, Baldwin came into the league undrafted out of Standford and a virtual unknown to...
Proctologistics With three weeks of the NFL regular season in the books, the one thing that is clear is that nothing is clear. This week was nothing if not entertaining. We had quarterbacks kicking footballs and punters throwing touchdowns. I’ve been having seizures since seeing Tom Brady’s plaid blazer in his postgame presser, so forgive […]The post WSC Week 3 Power Rankings...
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had four touchdowns Sunday against the Jaguars before being pulled in the third quarter.Fantasy Spin:The Seahawks pulled out their starters after going up 31-0 with 11:41 remaining in the third. Wilson threw for 202 yards in the game and hit Sidney Rice and Zach Miller two times apiece for scores.
Coming off the high of knocking off a heated division rival in Week 2, Seattle coach Pete Carroll wasn't about to take any chances.
He pulled his Seahawks together early this past week to make sure they didn't linger in the glow of dominating San Francisco and get caught napping against Jacksonville.
''We thought maybe something big had happened but he let us know...
Russell Wilson matched his career high with four touchdown passes - two each to Sidney Rice and Zach Miller - and the Seattle Seahawks dominated as expected in a 45-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
Seattle improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2006, beginning a stretch of four straight games against the AFC South. And none will likely be easier than overwhelming...
On a roll
The Seattle Seahawks were home again this week to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. After being a huge favorite, the Seahawks came through with a 45-17 win, going to 3-0 on the season for the second time in team history.
After a win like this, it’s nice to celebrate, but it’s time to move forward quickly to focus on the next game.
Before we move on, though, I need...
Russell Wilson got well then he rested.
A week after one of the worst statistical games of his career the Seattle quarterback rebounded with one of his best to lead the Seahawks to an expectedly easy 45-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in front of 68087 on Sunday at CenturyLink Field.
Wilson tied a career-high with four touchdown passes all in the first 34 minutes of the game...
SEATTLE (AP) -- Jacksonville running back Maurice Jones-Drew is active for Sunday's game against Seattle despite an ankle injury, while the Seahawks will be without starting outside linebacker Malcolm Smith due to a hamstring injury.
Jones-Drew was hurt last week against Oakland and was listed as questionable for Sunday's game. He's able to go, but tight end Marcedes...
