Stopping Peterson & Harvin Likely Key After what was probably the worst defensive outing of the season for the Seattle Seahawks, the team will hope to rebound this Sunday when the Minnesota Vikings roll into town. The job doesn’t get any easier for the Seahawks defense, as they will have to shut down a pair of Pro Bowlers in Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin if they want to go back above .500. Percy Harvin will almost definitely be matched up against Richard Sherman, as he is the biggest deep threat for the Vikings. Richard Sherman has been the go-to defensive back for the Seahawks this season, matching up against the opponent’s best wide receiver on a weekly basis. Last week, Sherman held Calvin Johnson to 46 yards on three catches. The Seahawks will also have to be prepared for Harvin during the return game, as he has also returned one kickoff for a touchdown this season. The Seahawks’ defense must step up this week against the Minnesota Vikings. Photo Credit: Grant Halverson/Getty Images The Seahawks come into this game with the 13th ranked passing defense in the NFL against a young quarterback, Christian Ponder, who has cooled down a bit since his hot start, but is still very capable of putting up big numbers in this league. The Seahawks’ defensive line will have a huge impact on Ponder’s success throwing the ball on Sunday. If they can put pressure on him, and minimize the amount of time that his receivers have to get open, they can make it a very long day for the Vikings’ passing offense. No one was quite sure what to expect from Peterson after a season-ending knee injury last year. However, he has come out strong in the first half this year scoring four touchdowns and rushing for 775 yards (5.1 yards per carry). He is a very dangerous running back who will test the Seahawks’ fifth-ranked rushing defense.  He is healthy and so far this season has been running over the opposition. The Seahawks have to be prepared. If Seattle can find a way to shut down Peterson, Ponder will have a tough time scoring with a one-dimensional offense. The defense has proven multiple times this season that they have no problem matching up against high powered offenses; however, they will need to bounce back from a shaky performance last Sunday when Matthew Stafford had his way with the Seahawks’ defense, throwing for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Seattle is a much better team when playing at home, and they will need to play a good game against a Vikings team that has surprised lot of people this season. At 4-4, they cannot afford to drop below .500  as this tight playoff race begins to take shape. CLICK HERE CHECK OUT THE SEAHAWKS BLOG IN OUR CLUBHOUSE AT NWSB!
