The Seattle Seahawks have sustained a major blow with Bruce Irvin being suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.Irvin will be available for all the Seahawks' camp activities and preseason games but will be excused from the team before the team's Week 1 game at Carolina.Irvin has also released a statement apologizing to fans and teammates, and has stated he will not appeal the suspension. To go along with missing the game against the Panthers, Irvin will also miss games against the San Francisco 49ers during Week 2, Jacksonville Jaguars Week 3, and in Houston against the Texans during Week 4.By the time Irvin rejoins the team before their Week 5 game in Indianapolis against the Colts, the Seahawks could find themselves with a 1-3 record and digging out of a hole. Not only will Irvin be missing four important games to start the season, he will also find his pocket $203,661.24 lighter with with the league taking their cut of the $814,645 base salary he was slated to make this season. This comes as a huge surprise to many fans and players from around the league after the monstrous rookie season Irvin had in 2012, where he played all 16 games and had 8 sacks from his defensive end position. Now with a huge void in their top ranked defense, the Seahawks will be paying extra close attention to Cliff Avril, Tony McDaniel, and Michael Bennett after being signed as free agents earlier this offseason. One of these players are going to have to step up since Chris Clemons will be recovering from knee surgery and now this catastrophe.
