Philadelphia sports fans are a special breed — the kind that were due to have their time on the big screen one of these days. In the Silver Linings Playbook, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro do them proud, showing some vintage Philly support and superstition amid a story of one family’s ties. But Eagles fans got more than a good story out of this film — if they can track down some of the fans that are represented in the movie, they may also be able to tell the team’s future. That’s because the filmmakers had two little snafus when they went to make the film. While much of the script was well-researched, with Cooper reportedly giving firsthand advice thanks to his Pennsylvania roots, the final product has a couple of missteps, too. By all accounts, the film appears to be set in the 2008 season, and the story revolves around games that actually happened that year. But the writers may have forgotten to check their notes with the wardrobe department. One fan is shown wearing a Nnamdi Asomugha jersey, and another shows off his Michael Vick threads, according to IMDb. Neither player was on the team until 2011. At least De Niro and Cooper got it right, though. Cooper wears a DeSean Jackson jersey in the film, and De Niro can be heard blasting coach Andy Reid. While De Niro couldn’t foresee that Reid’s days were numbered, he was certainly ahead of the pack in calling out the coach who would eventually be fired this season. Perhaps we can cut the filmmakers a break, though. They did craft a heartwarming tale, and even if they had been persistent about getting the right jerseys on their stand-in fans, who’s to say that a Donovan McNabb jersey would still be available in Philadelphia?
