EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - OCTOBER 01: Wide receiver, Jerricho Cotchery #89 of the New York Jets celebrates his touchdown on a 33 yard pass with teammate D'Brickashaw Ferguson #60 in the second quarter of the game against the Indianapolis Colts on October 1, 2006 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Steelers found a gem last season when they signed Jerricho Cotchery.  Cotchery was always under rated by the Jets and let him go for the services of Plaxico Burress.  Cotchery came to the Steelers as an injured commodity that people were afraid of.  He knew his role and played hard for the team.  He stepped in when others were injured and really played well.

Cotchery is not reportedly in talks with the Steelers about a new contract according to Scott Brown of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.  Talks have been called “productive” and Cotchery would like to return to the team.  The Steelers feel the same way.  The question will be how much Cotchery wants to stay.  The Steelers are strapped for cap and Cotchery will be the fourth receiver on this squad if Mike Wallace stays.  We just released Hines Ward for this reason.  Cotchery has to know what that value is to remain with the team.  Cotchery is hoping for a 4 year deal to finish his career with the team.

Cotchery has also been given endorsement from Ben Roethlisberger.  With the loss of Ward Roethlsiberger is looking for a little bit of veteran presence.  That will help keep the young guys grounded and in line.  Cotchery also will not just be a veteran presence.  He can play as well.  He has the talent to stay on the field when the Steelers need him and the offense will not skip a beat.
