Found May 03, 2012 on Steelers Depot:
Heading into the 2012 NFL draft it looked as if the Pittsburgh Steelers might have interest in drafting not only an inside linebacker, but an outside linebacker as well. Of their 30 allowed pre draft visitors, 4 were considered 3-4 outside linebacker prospects in the form of Nick Perry, Andre Branch, Cam Johnson and Olivier Vernon. There were also reports that the Steelers had some interests in Whitney Mercilus in addition to those four players. When the smoke had cleared late Saturday night the Steelers had only drafted inside linebacker Sean Spence and added outside linebackers Brandon Lindsey Read more [...]

Steelers Drafted Sean Spence For His Instincts, Not His Measureables

When you look at the NFL scouting combine and pro day measurables of the Pittsburgh Steelers third round draft pick Sean Spence, you might not be overly impressed. His 5 foot, 11 inch height combined with his 231 pound weight certainly has you envisioning a pretty smallish linebacker. Even Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review commented on first seeing Spence up close that...

Steelers Release RB Chad Spann & CB Antonio Smith

I had a feeling that a few corresponding roster moves might be on the way soon as the Pittsburgh Steelers roster was over 90 players after the undrafted free agents had been identified. That indeed was the case on Wednesday as Mark Kaboly reports via Twitter that running back Chad Spann and cornerback Antonio Smith have now been released. Spann was signed to the Steelers practice...

Steelers 2012 Rookie Camp – Friday Recap

Friday was the first day of rookie mini camp for the Pittsburgh Steelers and here is a quick and dirty recap of items gathered from around Twitter and the internet. The best thing that could happen today is that there appears to not have been in any injuries, at least none serious. It will not be uncommon to hear about a few bumps, bruises or hamstrings, but at least no knees...

Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 Draft Grades

A rundown of the Steelers' draft picks. It has been a few days since the Draft and I have had to do some reserch on some of the Steelers' lower draft picks. 1st Round Pick 24 OG David DeCastro, Stanford A+ This player was a great pick up. The Steelers commented after the Draft that he was one of the players they would trade up for and didn't have to.  With a...

Colossal Dividends If Mike Adams Flourishes

By Jeremy Hritz It has been one week since the first day of the 2012 NFL Draft, and there is one player that has intrigued me to the point of distraction. There are no doubts surrounding the impact that David DeCastro will make in his rookie year. Players selected rounds three through seven will not be expected to start right away; they will only be expected to compete for a roster...

Steelers rookies settling in after whirlwind week

A week ago, Mike Adams was waiting for his phone to ring. On Friday the former Ohio State star walked onto the Pittsburgh Steelers practice field as a professional football player. The second-round draft pick joined 39 other rookies for the start of a three-day minicamp. Adams says he missed playing football but comes into camp with low expectations. He will likely work as a backup...

Video: Antonio Brown’s offseason training routine

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown flourished during his second NFL season, forming a dangerous combo with speedster Mike Wallace. In 2011 Brown was named to his first Pro Bowl and hauled in 69 passes for 1,108 yards with 2 touchdowns. He was also equally as dangerous as kick/punt returner, becoming the first player in [...]

Post-Draft Grades Don’t Mean Much

The Steelers were touted by USA Today as having the best overall draft following this weekends 2012 NFL Draft. However, draft grades don’t always equal the production on the field. As every fan knows there are surprises and busts throughout the NFL Draft and the only way to weed out the good f Continue

Undrafted Starter?

First-round draft pick David DeCastro lined up at right guard and second-round draft pick Mike Adams lined up at left tackle on the first day of rookie minicamp. But there was a third potential starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers on the field Friday ...

Ta’amu will play a big part in the future of the defensive line

The Steelers answered a lot of questions by the time the NFL was over this past weekend. They filled serious holes on the offensive line, got some depth at linebacker and running back, and also found themselves the next Casey Hampton. That’s some big shoes to fill no matter who you are, and not a responsibility to be taken lightly. Hampton started 148 of the 157 games he’s played...
