This was a huge game for the Steelers, and not just because it was the home opener. Going down 0-2 on the season was just not something that Lamarr Woodley or anyone else on the team was willing to concede. It was imperative to start out strong in this game, get the home crowd into it and gain some confidence after a tough loss last Sunday night in Denver. The Jets came in after a big week 1 win against the Bills and looking to keep their momentum going at Heinz Field. The Steelers won the coin toss and elected to receive. Their first possession was a sign of things to come as they went on a 10 play drive that lasted 5:53 and was finished off by a Sean Suisham 45 yd FG. It wasn’t a pretty kick but it went through and the Steelers were up 3-0. The Jets took their opening drive and went right down the field on their own 8 play, 90 yd drive which finished off on a Mark Sanchez to Santonio Holmes 14 yd TD pass. Earlier in the drive, Ike Taylor was called on a phantom pass interference t...

Steelers Newest CB DeMarcus Van **** Gunning To Impact Special Teams

He is the newest player on the roster of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and many fans think he is undrafted free agent safety Robert Golden because of the number that wears, but cornerback DeMarcus Van **** has made an impact on special teams in his first two games wearing the black and gold. The former third round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders downed a punt at the one yard-line...

Young Money Crew Is Money On 3rd Downs Over Course Of Young Careers

We all know how clutch that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is on third downs, and if you need a reminder, he was 8-of-10 for 119 yards with a touchdown in the 27-10 win on Sunday against the New York Jets. While that great ability of his needs no more glossing from me any time soon, I thought we should take a look at the third down receiving numbers of the...

Woodley Versus Howard - Of his 48 snaps played...

Report: James Harrison not expected to play until week 5

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, we shouldn’t expect Steelers linebacker James Harrison to be back on the field until week five.  This means he’ll likely miss the next two games. Do not expect James Harrison to play until after Sept 30 bye week. — Gerry Dulac (@gerrydulac) September 15, 2012

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. N.Y. Jets preview: Show me the D!

BY SAM HITCHCOCK - NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM (COMMENTARY) The biggest takeaway I initially had from the New York Jets’ thumping of the Buffalo Bills was a) I cannot believe how much money Buffalo paid for its defensive line because Mark Sanchez sat comfortably all day in the pocket, and b) how much money did the Bills give quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick?! Not a good time to be a...

Looking At The YAC Allowed In The Steelers 27-10 Win Over The Jets

Last week I noted the poor job the Pittsburgh Steelers did in their opener against the Denver Broncos at tackling the catch as they allowed 126 total YAC in that game. Now of course it did not help that Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas had 70 of those yards on the 1 yard screen pass from quarterback Peyton Manning that ended in a touchdown 70 yards later, but you just can&...

New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: Five Things We Learned

The Pittsburgh Steelers got back to playing the type of football many are used to seeing them play, as a strong performance by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and a dominant defensive effort propelled the Steelers to a 27-10 win over the New York Jets Sunday at Heinz Field.Roethlisberger went 24-for-31 for 275 yards and two touchdowns while the Steelers’ defense held Mark Sanchez...

Weak Steelers Defensive Drafts The Real Cause For Turnover-Impotence?

By Jeremy Hritz While it is too early to be overly concerned about the Steelers opening day loss to the Denver Broncos, an 0-2 record following the matchup with the New York Jets would assuredly trip the alarms. While not quite exactly as abysmal as last year’s opening day thrashing, the 31-19 loss in Denver featured a Steelers team that looked eerily similar to the one from 2011...

Week Two: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Jets Recap

On the board for 2012. It was a tale of two halves in this game. The first half gave every indication that the Steelers were going to find a way to lose to an obviously inferior opponent. Then, offensively and defensively, the Steelers flipped the switch in the second and dominated the Jets en route to a 17 point victory which is one point more than the point differential in the...

Morning After Report

Well, as it turns out, LaMarr Woodley was right when he claimed on Twitter that his Pittsburgh Steelers would not be 0-2 following their match-up with the New York Jets on Sunday. The Jets started out hot -- right where the left off after their 20-point drumming against the Buffalo Bills -- with two great drives offensively and defensively holding Ben Roethlisberger to field goals...

Week Two: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Jets Preview

What did we learn from week one? There were a lot of unknowns coming into the loss against the Denver Broncos. We learned that the Steelers have a larger variety of weapons than Todd Haley has ever dealt with before and he had problems getting everyone involved. We learned, well at least I did, that [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other...

Steelers Jets Game Rewind: Second Half Notes

I have already posted my first half notes from the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-10 win over the New York Jets and below are my notes from the second half of the game. LaMarr Woodley starts the second half with a good open field tackle on the tight end. A couple of short runs moves the chains for the Jets as Larry Foote just missed a TFL on the second down run. Woodley finally gets...
