Going into the final game of 2012 with no chance to enter the post season is about as depressing a thought as there is in sports. Normally we as fans are looking forward to prognosticating how the playoffs will turn out, where Pittsburgh may or may not have to play. It’s an exciting time of year no matter what seed you get, but this year the team will join the fans in the same spot on game day, the couch. Popular thinking tells you that with nothing to play for, standings wise, why not see what your younger players can do? Might as well get a head start in the evaluation process for next season right? No substitute for game day situations when you’re trying to make the team, or stay on it. For the Steelers though, they don’t have to worry about that scenario because they’ve all but exhausted their roster this season as it is. As Mike Tomlin pointed out in weekly press conference this past Monday, they won’t just use the final game against the Browns at Heinz Field as an evaluation p...

  • The Organization blew it: starting at the top down through the coaching. The should now try to figure out what went wrong. Starting at kneejerk canning of Bruce to equally foolish hiring of Haley. Colbert and Jr. blew it! Give MT new soundbites, shakeup OC position, clean all deadwood, push retirement on vets that have lost step, can Colon and Offensive Line Misfits, get two quarterbacks, make Charlie quarterbacks coach, and quite making excuses for letting down Steeler nation. If Mike can't foster discipline and make gameday decisions, release him.
  • There is VERY little that Mike Tomlin has been right about this entire season but this may be ONE thing that he is right about. THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF HAS BEEN EVALUATED and their grade is F-
  • Tomlin cant coach his way out of a paper bag, its so obvious its pathetic, bad calls bad coaching, it starts with him, he lost control of the team, no discipline or motivation, hes the one that needs to walk, since the team cowher put together is mostly gone it shows just what kind of a coach tomlin is or isnt, i choose the latter, i didi have great expectations, but for the past few years, he showed how much he doesnt know, let him go, get someone who will crack the whip and get this team back on track, hell the players wont play for him, the penalties which are repititious, not being coached properly or preparing the team to play, this man shouldnt be coddled he should be fired.
  • Fire all the coached and start over. We have good players and they can do better.

Two Changes the Steelers Must Make in 2013

The personnel side of changes will take care of themselves as the off-season begins about 4pm on Sunday for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Decisions of who will be cut and who will be scouted in the draft are already underway but there are two specific changes I’m looking forward to the Steelers making on the coaching staff. The first thing that needs to be addressed is somewhat taking...

Four Steelers Practice Squad Players That Would Be Smart Adds For The Final Game

The Pittsburgh Steelers will place tight end Heath Miller and running back Baron Batch on injured reserve this week and there could be a few other injured players moved there in order to open up a few roster spots for some practice squad players to be added for the final game against the Cleveland Browns. Nose tackle Alameda Ta'amu, linebacker Marshall McFadden, safety Damon...

Steelers represented at the Pro Bowl with 2 players, none from the defense

For the 12th year in a row the Steelers will send multiple players to represent the team in the annual Pro Bowl game. Now, multiple normally implies more than 2, at least in my mind but considering how this season as gone there really weren’t many deserving on the team unfortunately so we’ll take what we can get right? This is the fewest number the team has sent since 2000 when...

Mike Tomlin’s Steelers with zero playoff wins in last 3 out of 4 seasons.

The loss to the Bengals is still all to fresh in our minds, but this puts it into some perspective for everyone. If you’re a supporter of Mike Tomlin, that’s fine. If you’re a detractor then that’s fine too. Either way, changes need to happen, and not just little ones. If major changes aren’t made by Mr Cliche and Kevin Colbert who is also to blame for this debacle of a...

Roethlisberger blames self for Steelers collapse

Ben Roethlisberger's passing rating and passing yards per game are up from his career average, while his completion rate is the same it's been over his eight year NFL career.   But Roethlisberger says its how he's played which has put the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-8) out of the playoffs. "A lot of it just has to do with me not playing well enough down the stretch...

Steelers NT Casey Hampton Open To Playing Elsewhere Next Season

Steelers NT Casey Hampton has been a staple of Pittsburgh’s defense for the past 12 seasons, but the 35-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and there has been plenty of attention paid to the overall age of the team’s defense unit. Hampton appears to be more than aware of the situation that he’ll be faced with in March, but believes...

TE Heath Miller tears knee ligaments

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller sustained multiple torn ligaments in his right knee during the loss to the Bengals. Miller, a prime candidate for the Pro Bowl and team MVP, tore anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments on Sunday. He also has a possible tear in his posterior cruciate ligament. Typical recovery time would extend well into next season's training...

Ben Roethlisberger at a loss to explain drop in 4th quarter rallies this season

It was almost a staple in Pittsburgh. Being down in the fourth quarter pushed the Steelers offense into overdrive, with Big Ben manufacturing late rallies to win close games. This season, not so much, and QB Ben Roethlisberger can’t quite put his finger on it. He’s 2 for 7 in 8 games that were decided by 3 points. "In the past, I've prided myself and our team in...

Steelers Place Heath Miller, Ike Taylor, Baron Batch on IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed three players on injured reserve this week, including cornerback Ike Taylor, tight end Heath Miller and running back Baron Batch, reports Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk. The Steelers did just that, placing cornerback Ike Taylor on injured reserve, along with tight end Heath Miller and running back Baron Batch. Taylor has missed the last three...

Rashard Mendenhall was back in action and...

Steelers Defensive Coverage Stats Versus Bengals – Week 16

Below are the coverage stats for the Pittsburgh Steelers following their 13-10 loss Sunday to the Cincinnati Bengals. The completion percentage of 60% is a bit higher than what you would like to see as is the yards per attempt of 6.95. The 5.29 yards after the catch is also a bit higher than what you would like to see, but as a whole the tackling was much better this week as opposed...

Report: Ex-Steelers LB Porter out of jail after repaying debt

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter was released from jail in Bakersfield, Calif., three days after he was charged with writing bad checks in Las Vegas. According to reports, Porter paid a $70,000 debt to Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas and was released Monday. Porter, 35, retired in July after a 13-year NFL career that also included stops with Miami and Arizona.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media on Monday to talk about the loss on Sunday to the Cincinnati Bengals as well as the upcoming season finale against the Cleveland Browns. 5 Former Head Coaches Who May Get Hired A Second Time Around

We’re a week away from Black Monday and this means one thing: NFL coaching jobs will be opening up. So be sure to keep an eye on Craigslist.   This is the time of year where we famously pit college coaches and rumor them to be leaving. Pretending we know about the next Mike Tomlin … Continue reading »
