Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson says he would like to see quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick compete for the starting job next season even though he already believes in him as their starter. “Because competition brings out the best in us,” Johnson said, per the Buffalo News. “If we went out and got another quarterback, who knows what’ll happen? Fitz may still win, or the other guy my win. Let it happen like that. “I’m a guy that’s about competing. Bring whoever you want in and the better man will win. So be it.” Johnson does believe the Bills can win with Fitzpatrick. “You look at these games, and we’re still in it,” Johnson said. “If he was a bum, we wouldn’t have been in any of these games. I wouldn’t have had another season with 1,000 yards or six touchdowns or Scott Chandler with six touchdowns and almost a [club] record. “He is a good quarterback. We’ve all seen that. Obviously, they may bring somebody else in. I just hope it leads to competition. I think Fitz is one of those competitors. He may come out with the job again.” I don’t understand why Johnson wants Fitzpatrick to compete for the starting quarterback job when he already believes in him.  It sounds like to me he knows they can only go so far with Fitz as their quarterback.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";

Ryan Nassib: Buffalo’s next QB?

  It may be 150 miles from Syracuse to Buffalo down the New York State thruway, but the people who inhabit those two cities are often clumped under the upstate New York bubble, dooming them to sharing the same values, thinking the same things, eating the same foods, and essentially being the same people. This makes the winter exodus of football coaches from the hill of Syracuse...

Bills GM Buddy Nix talks Senior Bowl QBs not named Ryan Nassib

For Buffalo Bills fans, the name Ryan Nassib has quickly become as familiar as Ryan Fitzpatrick.Nassib’s rise to the top part of the Bills’ prospective quarterback list has been as fast as the team’s decision-making process on coach Doug Marrone. Ryan Fitzpatrick Could Be Cap Casualty

Khaled Elsayed of Pro Football Focus (via ESPN Insider) writes that Ryan Fitzpatrick could end up being a cap casualty this offseason given that he has a cap figure of $10.4 million next season. Buffalo has made it pretty clear that they intend to look for another quarterback during the offseason and the fact that they’ve brought in a new head coach in Doug Marrone only suggests...

Stevie Johnson wants to see a Quarterback Competition in Buffalo

  The Buffalo Bills have struggled to put out a winning product on the field for many years now. When winning isn’t happening, finger pointing usually ensues. And when your quarterback hasn’t exactly played elite, he usually takes the most blame. Ryan Fitzpatrick didn’t have a very good 2012 season and there has been talk throughout the Bills organization about the need for...
