Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman clearly had a plan at the start of the offseason. He first dealt receiver Percy Harvin issue by trading the problem child to Seattle for. He didn’t overpay for cornerback Antoine Winfield, instead letting him walk. He replaced Harvin with Greg Jennings, and moved on. Spielman move to the draft to make dramatic moves that on Friday morning made the team much better. According to Ben Goessling of TwinCities.com, in a 46 day period the Vikings have made wholesale changes. Games aren’t played in April, but if they were the Vikings would be in the Super Bowl hunt. Spielman and coach Leslie Frazier had stated they wanted youth and good attitudes; they didn’t care about talent oozing out of malcontents ears. The team was the undisputed winners of the first round. Goessling writes: ‘Cordarelle Patterson, who will also likely get a shot to replace Harvin as a kickoff returner. 6-foot-1 rookie Xavier Rhodes, not the 5-foot-9 Winfield, could line up as one of the team’s starting cornerbacks. Sharrif Floyd might play alongside Kevin Williams on the defensive line. That’s a lot of turnover in six weeks for a team that made a seven-game improvement and reached the playoffs last year, but it’s also signal that roster-building is sometimes incongruous with year-to-year results on the field.’
