As far as my actual “real person” week — this week has flown by. However, the Super Bowl media coverage this weeks has been endless. I’m just not into it. You might be able to tell as this might literally be the least active posting week in the modern history of OWS.

But I digress…

New York Giants (+3) vs. New England Patriots

You have to bet on the Super Bowl. You’re a Nancy boy if you don’t, right? It’s one of the most cliche things to do as a man. Everybody’s doing it. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported more than $82 million was wagered at Nevada sportsbooks for the 2010 Super Bowl. That’s only the physical Vegas books. And, that’s only what they reported. I can only imagine the 2012 version will eclipse that mark. A New York team and the evil football empire — yeah, there will be some interest here.

Speaking of interest; I live in New England. I’ve been watching the Patriots decade of dominance up close. I have some interest in this one. That said, when the line for this game opened, I was all over the Giants by Monday morning.

Throughout these playoffs, my initial snap judgments have often been wrong. On the other hand, after thinking about the game for a big longer, I’ve been able to make some winning bets.

Pick: Patriots -3

The key points in this game are obvious — can the Giants defensive line disrupt the Patriots passing game? You know, like, say when the Giants defensive line disrupted the Patriots passing game 4 years ago. Just for an example.

But, who cares about that, I’m talkin’ prop bets here.

**********

I really can’t get into the “how many times will they show” bets.  You’d think they’d be a lock. Is there usually anything more predictable than a major network’s viewpoint? This is the one time I don’t know what NBC is going to do.

Here are my favorite five prop bets. And, of course, I will start with Victor Cruz.

Who Will Have More Receiving Yards — Wes Welker or Victor Cruz?

      • Welker (+5.5 yards, -105)
      • Cruz (-5.5 yards, -125)

Maybe it’s my Cruz fandome (and conservatism in that regard) but I really like Welker getting yards here. Just a couple years ago Victor Cruz was catching passes in Amherst.

Now everyone is on this kids ****. The crazy thing is that I’m not the only one obsessed with the Victor Cruz storyline. Everyone loves them some Cruz. Like, a lot. Obviously I am in that boat with our UMass ties. But, I mean, Madonna…. really?

Unreal.

Back to business. The Giants have a few receivers that play a similar role in that offensive. Welker is the Patriots only slot option. He’s going to get his targets. Especially at that -105 number…

Pick: Welker +5.5

WhoWill Have More Passing Yards?

      • Eli Manning in 2008 (+59.5, -115)
      • Eli Manning in 2012 (-59.5, -115)

Manning threw for 255 yards in 2008. With the 59.5 yard spread, Vegas sets the over/under on Eli yards at 314.5. Three hundred and fifteen yards is a big number.

However, think about this — Eli will likely have bug yardage numbers if the Giants win and also is the Giants end up playing from behind. Moreover, he has thrown for over 315 yards in each of the last two weeks.

Pick: Over

How Many Viewers Will The Super Bowl Average?

      • Over 117 (-140)
      • Under 117 million (EVEN)
Last year’s game did about 111 million. Everyone anticipates this game will beat that 2011 number. In 2010, the number stood at 106.5 and 2009 at 98.7. I think you can see where they are getting the 117 number.

Pick: Over

The Largest Lead Of The Game By Either Team.

      • Over 13.5 (-150)
      • Under 13.5 (+120)
That under looks so tempting. It plays on the common thought that this will be a competitive and close game. However, a game can be a two touchdown game for a short period of time, and still be quite competetive. Vegas, you sly MFers. Still, those odds…

Pick: Under

Who Will The Super Bowl MVP Thank First?

      • Teammates — 5/4
      • Coach — 12/1
      • Family — 15/2
      • God — 4/1
      • Does Not Thank Anyone — 5/2
God is a significant dog here. Anytime I can get 4:1 money on God, I take it.

Pick: God
