Future NFL draftee WR Tavon Austin had a chance to talk to the media a little while ago. The former West Virginia Mountaineer is projected to be picked up in the late first-round of the NFL Draft this coming April. When asked about his style of play at the NFL Combine, the star WR seems to identify himself to Pro Bowler Wes Welker... “Wes Welker, that’s the No. 1 guy,” he said. “I see how Wes does it, I watch a lot of tape of him, and I think I move a little quicker and faster than Wes, so if he can do it, I know I can do it [too].” The WEEI article (linked above) made the point that West Virginia's head coach Dana Holgersen was also Welker's wide receivers coach at Texas Tech. Standing at 5'9" and 174 lbs, Austin does have a similar build to Welker's 5'9", 185 lbs. As far as his claim that he is faster, evidence shows that he could be right. At the 2004 NFL Combine, Welker ran a 4.65 second 40-yard dash. With this year's combine just around the c...

Patriots’ right tackle Sebastian Vollmer had knee surgery, according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. Vollmer is set to explore the free agent market in March, but recently underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his knee. This is another injury being fixed in a long line for the often injured tackle. Asante Samuel tells Wes Welker to chase the money

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel was a guest on FOX Sports radio and he had some advice for Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker. “He made the comment when I left, I chased the money and not the championship. So here’s my advice to you, Welker: You better chase the money, brother,” Samuel said, per ProFootballTalk.com. Unlike Samuel, it might be more important to Welker...

Rob Gronkowski Off Oscars Duty?

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is not shy. The man is known almost as much for his over the top, hard-partying personality as he is for his skill on the football field. That's probably why the Rich Eisen Podcast wanted him as its Oscars correspondent on the red carpet this Sunday. The big man would have no trouble approaching anyone. Heck, half the time they...

Chasing The Patriots (by ESPN) Every move the Dolphins make this...

Chasing The Patriots (by ESPN) Every move the Dolphins make this off-season should be geared toward beating the Patriots.  I think they should pursue athletic tight ends to really attack the Patriots linebackers in coverage. That’s where they’ve been weakest over the past three seasons.

The Patriots trying to lock up Kyle Arrington for some reason

Kyle Arrington has a good year in 2011, then followed up with an absolutely miserable one in 2012. Boston Herald: The Patriots will meet with Kyle Arrington's representation this week at the combine to discuss...

Top 5 free-agent cornerbacks the Patriots could sign

The Patriots have a whole lot of needs this off-season, and one of the most popular to point to is the secondary. Last year, the Patriots defense started out terribly against the pass. Then they traded for Aqib Talib, promoted Alfonzo Dennard to starter, moved Devin McCourty to safety, and vastly improved. Unfortunately we could be looking at yet another complete makeover in the...

Anthony Spencer Would Improve Patriots’ Pass Rush, But Other Defensive Needs Must Take Precedent

Bill Belichick finally addressed the Patriots’ glaring pass rush deficiency in last year’s draft with the selection of defensive end Chandler Jones and linebacker Dont’a Hightower in the first round. Jones (six sacks) and Hightower (four) helped add some pressure off the edge, along with the team’s sack leader Rob Ninkovich (eight), in 2012. Even with the stellar efforts...

Now, years later, Welker is the one who's a free agent, and Samuel has some advice for him. Speaking on FOX Sports Wednesday, Samuel said Welker should leave the Patriots if some other team...
