Minnesota Vikings new quarterback Teddy Bridgewater plans to use the draft as motivation this season. Bridgewater was once considered for the No. 1 overall pick but slid down to No. 32, where the Vikings grabbed the Louisville QB in the first round on Thursday. ”You can bet that,” Bridgewater said Friday. ”I talked with coach (Mike) Zimmer a while back when I came here and he told me he loves guys that play with a chip on their shoulder. So after having that conversation with him and just experiencing last night, I’m glad to be a Viking. But you can best believe I’ll play with a chip on my shoulder.” Bridgewater made it clear during his introductory press conference that he will be wearing gloves in Minnesota. “You can best believe I’ll continue to wear my gloves,” he said. Bridgewater said he uses the gloves to help him grip the ball better, and plans to wear them to adjust to the Vikings’ temporary move outdoors, as well as yearly road games in Green Bay and Chicago. “I was listening to him [Thursday] doing an interview and he said one thing it taught him was to stay true to yourself,” coach Mike Zimmer said. “He plays all of these times wearing a glove and he comes out on his pro day, supposedly the biggest day, which really isn’t. The 44 games he played in college are the biggest days, this is just one day to show off in front of the NFL Network and everything. He said,’You just learn to stay true to yourself’ And then he came out with us with the glove and threw it all over the place.” The post Teddy Bridgewater: ‘I’m glad to be a Viking’ appeared first on Sports Glory.

Thoughts & head-scratchings from Round 1

Some random thoughts after one of the craziest 1st rounds of any draft in recent memory, where almost nothing seemed to go according to plan… • At the time I loved the pick. Vikings have a rollercoaster of a first round

The Minnesota Vikings may have saved their franchise last night by trading into the end of the first round of the NFL draft and taking quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Of course, in typical Vikings fashion, they managed to temper any potential excitement by blowing their first pick.  By reaching for OLB Anthony Barr, the Vikings left some players on the board who could immediately...

Vikings Get Mostly Defensive in Draft

The Vikings spent seven of their ten draft picks on the defensive side of the ball. No surprise though, considering first year head coach Mike Zimmer is a defensive guy and this defense gave up more points than any other team last season. They drafted UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr in the 1st round, Oregon defensive end Scott Crichton in the 3rd, cornerbacks Antone Exum of Virginia...

A homely Brett Favre talks NFL Draft

Everybody has to get in on the draft day action. Even a homely looking Brett Favre (no stranger to the gym, though) had something to say about the most polarizing qb in the draft class: A haggard, jacked Brett Favre analyzes the #NFLDraft, and really likes Johnny Manziel. Vikings Get Busy on Day 1, Draft Barr and Bridgewater

Entering the offseason, it was clear the Vikings had many holes to fill. The quarterback and linebacker positions were on the list. Matt Cassel was re-signed, but is not a long-term answer and the linebackers struggled last season. There were plenty of questions being asked about the Vikings. Do they draft a quarterback? linebacker? or maybe both? They decided to go with both.They...

Minnesota Vikings Raise the Barr in Round 1

Teddy Bridgewater has a new home as Spielman made a huge splash in the first round (via twincities) Slick Rick did it again.
