HOUSTON - The Houston Texans reached a contract agreement with veteran quarterback Jake Delhomme to add depth to the position after losing Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart to season-ending injuries.
Delhomme, 36, worked out for Texans coaches and management on Tuesday.
He was released by the Cleveland Browns in July after playing 13 years in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and the Browns.
Delhomme played for the Panthers from 2003-2009 where he became Carolina's all-time leader in passes attempted and completed and in interceptions.
Delhomme led the Panthers to the NFC championship in 2003 before losing to the New England Patriots in Super bowl XXXVIII 32-29 at Reliant Stadium, where he threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns.
