Don’t mess with Texas is the message being sent with Texas Tech’s uniforms for this weekend’s game against… well, Texas. Take a look at these uniforms on the right. The Red Raiders stay true to the namesake color scheme, which is smart. The helmet, judging by this initial image, looks to be pretty sharp. From what we can see in this image (click image to view larger), it looks as though Texas Tech is going with a black helmet, possibly in a reflective chrome style or something similar, with regular red logo. We will have to withhold further judgement until a better picture becomes available. Of course, this uniform is all about the Texas pride with the shoulder pads. The shoulders are given a blue swatch topped by a Texas flag-themed star on each side. The same star design appears on the red socks to be worn with the uniform. At first glance it looks as though this uniform was inspired by the alternate uniforms worn by the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, with the stars on the shoul...

Backcourt problem dogging Texas

The Texas Longhorns head into the new season with a bit of a backcourt problem. The Longhorns lost last season's leading scorer, J'Covan Brown, when the shooting guard decided to bolt for the NBA. That was something coach Rick Barnes could plan for. Now starting point guard Myck (pronounced Mike) Kabongo is under investigation by the NCAA, which has raised questions about...

10 Thoughts from the Texas vs. Kansas Game

We all feared Texas would wake up Saturday morning sluggish and play a bad game… That fear turned into reality last Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas. The Longhorns escape Kansas with a win but it was an ugly one to say the least. These are in no particular order. 1. The Worst Win: Even though Texas [...]

Texas sticking with Ash as No. 1 QB

The Texas Longhorns are sticking with David Ash as starting quarterback. Ash was replaced by Case McCoy late against Kansas and McCoy drove the Longhorns to the game-winning touchdown in a 21-17 win. But coach Mack Brown says Ash will still be the starter when the Longhorns (6-2, 3-2 Big 12) travel this week to play at No. 20 Texas Tech (6-2, 3-2). Ash has been one of the highest...

Longhorns sticking with David Ash at QB

Case McCoy came in late against Kansas to lead the Texas Longhorns on a game winning drive last Saturday night. The touchdown pass from McCoy to D.J. Grant with twelve seconds left gave the Longhorns a 21-17 victory over a woeful Jayhawks team. The Longhorns turned to McCoy after starting quarterback David Ash was ineffective. Ash threw two interceptions and was just 8-for-16 for...
