INDIANAPOLIS, IN - AUGUST 20: Head coach Andy Reid of the of the Philadelphia Eagles watches the action on the field from the sidelines against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on August 20, 2009 in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Photo by Scott Boehm/Getty Images)

Philadelphia is livid about the state of their football team. Once called the dream team, the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in the cellar of the NFC East with a dismal 1-4 record. Many people have been asking how this happened. The popular target for criticism has been head coach Andy Reid, who always puts the blame on himself in every post-game press conference.

To an extent, the fans are right. Andy Reid and the rest of the staff have done an overall poor job of making in game adjustments and rallying the players when they are down. The clock management has been abysmal, but that has always been a problem for Reid and the Eagles.

While the coaches have not done a great job, the players are the ones that deserve most of the blame. Are the schemes perfect? Absolutely not, but the players need to make plays. The players are making the coaches look bad and Michael Vick seems to be the only person that realizes that.

It’s not the coaches fault that the Eagles are missing tackles; that’s the players being lazy. Don’t think for a second that the coaches have any shot in changing the way an NFL player tackles, because they don’t. The players on this Eagles team care about two things. One is themselves and making sure they look good on the field. The second thing is winning. However, it seems like these particular players will sacrifice a win to get themselves on Sportscenter delivering a huge hit.

I’ve said this before; if the Eagles want any shots at winning games, the first thing the players need to do is ice their ego’s. If they don’t, both them and the coaches will be searching for new teams in January.
