There is no denying that the Detroit Lions are now a legitimate threat in the NFL. Off to a perfect start through the first 4 weeks, the Lions finally have the pieces to succeed and they are showing no signs of let down so far. Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson have un-teachable chemistry, and I cannot wait to see how that dynamic duo continues to work together.

It hasn’t been long since the Lions suffered a winless season, inking themselves as one of the worst teams of all time. But after hitting rock bottom, the organization has taken all the necessary steps in establishing a franchise that can compete in the NFL. After that horrendous season, the team selected quarterback Matthew Stafford out of Georgia, hoping he would help the team improve their offensive output. Being thrown into a starting quarterback position as a rookie is never easy, and Stafford learned that the hard way. He threw 20 interceptions in only 10 games that season. He did indeed show signs of improvement as he either ran or threw for a touchdown in every game he played. Coming into the 2010 season with momentum, there was great pressure on Stafford to perform like a 1st overall pick. Unfortunately, Stafford suffered numerous injuries that plagued his entire season. He had his back against the wall coming into this season, having to prove that he wasn’t another Jamarcus Russell.

Prior to opening night, there was actual hype surrounding the Lions. Sports fans and analysts knew the Lions had offensive and defensive weapons that could result in a good team. Now, four games into the season, all the hype is real. The Lions continue to win in impressive fashion, proving to the world that they are no longer that 0-16 team. Stafford and Johnson are putting up MVP numbers and their defensive line is one of the hardest hitting in the league. The Lions obviously have to play the Packers twice, as well as the Chargers and Falcons, but I am not too worried. I expect the Lions to be in playoff contention all year, as they will continue to show that a young, athletic team can succeed in the NFL.
