The Lions fired their president and CEO Matt Millen on September 24th 2008. Millen joined the organization in 2001 to bring change and make Detroit a winning football franchise. He clearly was better suited to do broadcasting then to run a football franchise considering he only produced 31 victories during his tenure with the Lions. Millen brought controversy and problems throughout his time with the Lions. His poor drafting of first round picks such as; Joey Harrington, Charles Johnson, and Mike Williams, resulted in players who did not produce on the field and caused headaches off the field. The Detroit Lions continued making changes that would improve their team in the future when they traded their pro bowl wide receiver Roy Williams to the Dallas Cowboys on October 14th 2008.  Williams would sign a new contract with them and never play up to it.
