Just a quick bit of news before I get to the subject of the article. Another Seahawk was put on injured reserve this week, but for once it wasn’t a starting offensive lineman. The unlucky player this time around is CB Ron Parker, a special teamer who was claimed off waivers from Oakland back in week eight. To fill his roster spot, WR Ricardo Lockette has been elevated from the practice squad. There’s no guarantee that Lockette will even be on the active roster for the game tomorrow, but he could be exciting as a gunner on the punt coverage unit. He earned his way on to the 53 man roster by making great catches in practice, but his greatest asset is his speed; Lockette was a track star at Fort Valley State, where in 2008 he won a Division II championship in the 200 meter. Dude’s fast. * * * A few months back I read Rex Ryan’s book Play to Win. Now, all I really expect from an active head coach’s book is boilerplate ghostwriting with a few useful facts sprinkled...

Jets' Ryan disappointed but still talking big

NEW YORK — Rex Ryan got on the phone, paused for a second and then offered the one positive thought he could come up with.

Greene trying to keep NY Jets on Super path

REX RYAN HAS consumed large helpings of humble pie throughout the season. His team had sunk in the standings during the course of a three-game cross-country slide, only to reemerge in recent weeks on top of an AFC playoff spot.

Rex Ryan says 'it's on' between Jets and Giants in battle for New York

Says Jets were better team in his first two years as head coach

Rex says playoffs in sight

Rex Ryan said he understood Bart Scott’s message Thursday about the Jets not being playoff-caliber yet, much less a Super Bowl contender. He grasped it was just the emotional linebacker’s way of keeping the team from getting complacent. But Ryan said make no mistake, Gang Green is a...

Greg Gumbel: “Always a ticklish thing for a head coach”

The word "ticklish" has never been a word that comes to mind when discussing a decision or lack of one by an NFL head coach. However, if Greg Gumbel were talking about the New York Jets and Rex Ryan when he said "always a ticklish thing for a head coach, isn't it," the portly announcer [...]

Rex Ryan says Santonio Holmes apologized for celebration penalty

Jets receiver Santonio Holmes had a terrible game in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Eagles. His first-quarter fumble set up Philadelphia’s first touchdown, and a pass bounced out of his hands and into the hands of Philadelphia’s Asante Samuel, setting up the Eagles’ second touchdown. To top it all off, even when Holmes finally made…

There’s Always Work to Do

We know we have to improve as a team in all phases, and we challenged our team that way. That’s the mentality, is we’ve got to keep getting better. You can’t stay the same. … We have to get better so that’s our mentality, that’s our mindset. Do I think we’re a playoff team? I absolutely do. But we have some work to do.” –Rex Ryan on whether or not the Jets...

New York Jets DL Mike DeVito Returns to Help Slow a Stout Philadelphia Eagles Running Game

Since accepting the job as head coach of the New York Jets in 2009, Rex Ryan has preached to his players to “play like a Jet.” That can mean a lot of things, such as being physical, playing hard and being tough. It’s about doing your job and trusting your teammates to do theirs. It’s about playing to the best of your ability and giving it your all, every snap...

Rob Ryan Sets the Bar Even Higher For Himself

There are defensive coordinators who would be chastened by the fact that their unit blew fourth quarter leads two weeks in a row and put their team at serious risk of missing the playoffs. Rob Ryan is not one of those defensive coordinators. In one of the more entertaining press conference performances you could hope to see, Ryan admitted that the defense needs to do a better job...

Rex’s Press Conference – 12.16.11

Transcript of head coach Rex Ryan’s news conference following Friday’s midday practice at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center, provided by the team: All right, fast Friday. Marquice Cole is out, did not practice. That’s that knee injury. Everybody else would be probable. Everybody else practiced full today, with the exception of two guys: Marcus Dixon was limited...

Three Things: Philadelphia Eagles

Controlling your own destiny never made much sense to me. Destiny in itself is predetermined by definition so controlling it (while understandable), is ambiguous. What a strange way to start off. Anyway, the Jets need to win and to do that they need to beat an extremely talented 5-8 Eagles team. Nothing is scarier than a team that has (almost) nothing to play for except playing spoiler...

Scott speaks, ready to peak

Just a few minutes before Bart Scott would issue his statement that the Jets are not playing like a playoff team, head coach Rex Ryan nearly predicted his linebacker was about to say something. “Bart is back to being Bart,” Ryan said. “I just see how enthusiastic he is. It...

Column: Imagine if 'Battle of NY' really mattered

The rest of us should be grateful the Jets and Giants only play each other once every four years.Imagine the hype if next weekend's "Battle of New York" actually meant something."There's no way I'm going to be second fiddle," blustery Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "If we were playing the ...
