Found November 04, 2013 on Eagles Faithful:
Well, this was unexpected. Nick Foles put on his Peyton Manning costume and went out to the Oakland coliseum and tied an NFL record, throwing for seven touchdowns. Wow. It would be too easy for me to list the offense as a whole as good. They were great. Foles spread the ball around to all his weapons and was able to lead the Eagles down the field with ease. The game would not be complete without mentioning the improving defense. For the fourth consecutive game, Billy Davis’ defense held an opponent under 21 points. The Good 1. Nick Foles The Arizona Wildcat threw for seven touchdowns and 406 yards on 22/28 passing. He also had a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3. What’s that all mean? Well, it means Foles had a hell of a day. The second-year quarterback will get an opportunity to grab the starting quarterback job for the season with a good game at Green Bay next week. 2. DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper 10 catches for 289 yards and four touchdowns for the duo. Cooper himself had three touchdowns. Cooper continues to look like a competent number two receiver with Foles under center. 3. Brent Celek and Zach Ertz Eight catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns for the much-maligned tight ends. Foles was able to spread the ball around, and he routinely found his tight ends for big plays. Could this be the start of something new or just a quick flash in the pan for the tight ends? 4. Bryce Brown The Eagles backup running back decided to run inside the tackles and finished with 54 yards on seven carries (7.7 average). Brown, a back who has both power and speed, spent much of the season bouncing his runs outside, against the Raiders, Brown hit the holes with aggression. 5. Rod Streater and Rashad Jennings Two bright spots for the Raiders were the wide receiver from Temple and the backup running back. Streater finished with 98 yards on five catches, while Jennings replaced an injured Darren McFadden and finished with 102 yards rushing and a touchdown. Jennings also added 74 yards through the air on seven receptions. 6. The Defense Sure, the defense let up 560 total yards of offense, but many of those yards came after the game was already a blowout. The emergence of rookie Earl Wolff (five tackles, two passes defensed and a forced intentional grounding) and reemergence of veteran Nate Allen (five tackles) has helped the secondary tremendously. DeMeco Ryans continues to lead the team in every way possible, finishing the game with 11 tackles. Bradley Fletcher and Connor Barwin both recorded interceptions while the Eagles got to Raiders quarterback for three sacks (including one by Vinny Curry!). 7. The Return Game With Damaris Johnson injured but dressed, DeSean Jackson returned punts and Brandon Boykin returned kicks. This was the first time the Eagles showed a dangerous return game all season. Jackson averaged 13 yards per return, including a 32 yard return. Boykin returned two kicks including a 41 yard return. Damaris Johnson may find himself out of a job. 8. Eagles Offensive Line Needing a good game to boost their own confidence, the line kept Foles upright for most of the game. The line was dominant and mobile. Although Jason Peters left the game with a pectoral injury, the Eagles line showed the ability to be a top-5 line that many people were expecting. The Bad 1. LeSean McCoy It’s not that McCoy had a bad day, but the star running back managed just 44 yards on 12 carries. McCoy added 36 yards and a touchdown on four receptions. Maybe I’m just nitpicking here… 2. Darren McFadden The oft-injured Raiders running back carried the ball five times for 12 yards prior to tapping out of the game with a hamstring injury. 3. Terrelle Pryor A quarterback who accounts for 382 yards total yards in the “Bad” section? Yes, yes it is. Pryor ran well with the ball and passed for 288 yards, but did so on 22/41 passing. Pryor threw two interceptions and looked tentative to run later in the game. Pryor would leave the game with a knee injury. The Ugly 1. DJ Hayden Raiders rookie cornerback was given his “Welcome to the NFL moment.” The rookie from Houston was beaten deep repeatedly by both DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper. 2. Oakland Defense Gashed for 49 yards and 542 yards. It does not get much worse.
