The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Buccaneers 36 @ Vikings 17   10/25/12   By Eric Judd   @ericjuddTSHQ   The Good And away he goes!   Doug Martin. Trent Richardson, please allow me to introduce the best running back, class of 2012. Doug Martin. Go back and watch Boise St. You think their success was because of 4’8” Kellen Moore? That’s cute. Doug Martin is Ray Rice, 2.0. Lucky for him, and for Tampa Bay, that Martin has a (slightly) more dynamic quarterback in Josh Freeman and some (any) serious threats at wide receiver in Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. He definitely does not have the Baltimore defense to bail him out, but his situation is light-years ahead of where Richardson is in Cleveland. Expect big things from Doug Martin in Tampa Bay. Big Things.   The Bad   Do you guys smell that?…Guys? Christian Ponder. As the weeks progress, I have less and less confidence in Christian Ponder. He’s not on Blaine Gabbert’s level of suck, but he is quickly disappearing in Jake Locker’s rearview mirror of C-. Ponder’s decision making, while top notch at Florida State, is obviously poor by NFL standards. His accuracy was supposed to make up for his lacking arm strength. It hasn’t. Minnesota might have 2 of the most electric, game changing playmakers in the NFL in Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin. And guess what? Nothing will happen in the Land of 10000 lakes, with Christian Ponder at the helm. Nada. Zip. Diddly. Christian Ponder is basically a slightly taller, slightly more athletic, slightly less effeminate version of Chad Pennington.   The Ugly   Nobody makes me bleed my blood. Donald Penn. What in the name of sweet, merciful crap were you thinking? A word of advice to all offensive lineman in the NFL, try not to smack Jared Allen in the mouth (okay, nose), because it brings out the crazy(er). How fitting was it that? Bloody up his face, he sacks your quarterback. Jared Allen, you fishing, stir-the-pot, flamboyant, whatever you call it, sack dance needs some work, but you earned some points in my book. Bravo, Sir. Bravo.   The Sequel   The most complete defensive player in the draft? Alex Okafor DE Texas. Every already knows about Jared Allen. Tampa Bay, on the other hand, is seriously lacking on defense. Watching Minnesota give up 36 to the Bucs, it is clear the Vikings need something more. How’s about another Jared Allen. Okay Alex Okafor isn’t Jared Allen, not yet. Alex Okafor is the type of player you can build your defense around. He’s 6’4 260+. He has the speed to take the edge and the strength to knock it over. He can play in a 4-3 or a 3-4. He has game changing ability, just ask Geno Smith (yes, Texas lost that game. In spite of Okafor’s dominating performance). If, either Tampa Bay or Minnesota is fortunate to have Okafor fall to them, expect this longhorn to be on the top of their draft boards.
