The Chiefs, who are coming off a team worst 2-14 record in team history (tying 2008) evidently have had enough by making several key moves this off season in hopes to get back and compete for the AFC West title and get back into the playoffs Kansas City owner Clark Hunt started by replacing Vice President and General Manager Scott Pioli (resigned) and head Coach Romeo Crennel (fired) with new GM John Dorsey and former long time Philadelphia Eagles football coach Andy Reid.  Hunt did this same thing after the first 2-14 record back in 2008. The team which also needed to fill some other holes, such as quarterback, wide receiver, offensive line and up front on the defensive line has already started resolving the needs.  The Chiefs traded a second round pick (#2 in the second round, 34 overall) and a conditional mid round pick in 2014 to San Francisco for former #1 overall pick QB Alex Smith, who replaced last year started Matt Cassell, who was waived.  The Chiefs also signed second year Wide Receiver Mardy Gilyard from the Jets.  This move is to fill in for veteran WR Steve Breaston who was released after several issues with his knee, but the big issue with the receiver group is what they will do with All-Pro Dwayne Bowe.  Bowe, who was franchised this past season, could be again, or the Chiefs can take their chances and try and resign him to a long term deal, or let him go and replace him with someone like Mike Wallace (Pittsburgh) or possibly a cheaper alternative in Brian Hartline (Miami) who had his first 1,000 yard season (74 catches for 1,083 yards and 1 touchdown).  Their best option is finding a way to sign Bowe to a contract that keeps him with the Chiefs without hampering them salary cap wise. Offensive line will most likely be addressed with the number #1 selection as they have Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel will be the selection made to sure up Smith’s backside for the next decade.  Don’t be surprised if they select Alabama Swiss Army knife of an offensive lineman Barrett Jones with the first selection of the third round, if they don’t sign Brandon Albert Defensively the Chiefs need to address the defensive line as well.  Former top selection lineman Glenn Dorsey and Shaun Smith are a free agents who will need to be addressed, especially Dorsey as he only played 4 games with a calf injury then was placed on IR for the season.  The Chiefs should look at Cliff Avril (Detroit) or Richard Seymour (Oakland) as would provide leadership and efficiency up front. The Chiefs are going have to get creative as they only will have $7.5 million in cap space, and need to find a way to get Bowe signed with the draft picks, including the number one pick.  Let’s see if this version of Clark Hunt’s changes will make the difference or just a temporary fix for the next four years when they have to do it again.       var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
