It's wrong to say the Eagles don't draft for need. They just perceive those needs a bit differently than most folks do.
Which is why the Brandon Graham pick isn't that surprising. I mean, not many people saw "Brandon Graham" coming, but "impact DE they think really fits their system" should never be a surprise.
Really, for the franchise that drafted Kevin Kolb, no big, long-term moves at a position of supreme importance should ever shock us.
I have a few thoughts on Graham, for what they're worth:
He sounds like Trent Cole. Similar body, similar playing style, lots of use of the word "relentless." I'm OK with attempting to clone the most indispensable Eagle. Seems like we get in more trouble when we go against type (Tony Hunt and Victor Abiamiri, for starters).
Maybe we'll manage to give Cole a few snaps off this season.
